Today I went shopping at BJs and then visited a newly opened Dick's Sporting Goods store in the same mall.
Big store, but the shooting cubicle is hidden in the back of the store between fishing stuff and camping equipment. Had to search. They had a fair stock of long guns -- no evil handguns, of course. I asked to see the prices on .22 LR and was pleased to find that they carry the Remington .22 LR copper-covered rounds in the 525 round box for $10.98. The rest of the .22 ammo was expensive, however: 100 rounds for $21.95.
However, they make buying ammo there as inconvenient as possible. After you show your LTC, when you select ammo, it has to be hand-carried by the gun salesman all the way back to the front of the store because, as he explained, "The police have a fit if we let the customer touch the box before he checks-out of the store." I guess the police live in terror of the customer opening the box and then assaulting customers by throwing .22 rounds at them.
At the cash register, I again had to show my LTC. The clerk then copied my DOB, address, my LTC number, and my credit card number into a separate file -- something not required by state law and in fact may be prohibited.
I won't be returning to Dick's to buy anything from a "sports" seller that is clearly afraid of firearms. I'd rather pay more and have less of a hassle.
Dick’s is just what the name says it is.
I absolutely do not like Dick’s in the Austin Tx area.
sounds like a regional thing. when i purchased 20 boxes of .223 tula last week they were out on the shelf and i put them in my little basket and carried them up to the register. did not have to show ID and the only thing the girl at the register asked for was if i had their reward club card.
They used to be very anti EBR but recently have opened up and started carrying brands like troy and viking tactics.
Are you 'allowed' to buy from the internet?
Much better deals to be had.
Wally World San Antonio....walk in, tell the person behind the sporting goods counter what you want, it is rung up and bagged and out you go. Shotgun shells are on a shelf outside of the counter so they are grab and go. YMMV.
Dicks is less dick-like elsewhere. The one in Westminster, MD will let buy handgun ammo off the shelf, no clerk involved. But the one in Fairfax, VA (just a mile from NRA HQ) used to keep all handgun ammo (including .22 LR) locked behind the counter.
But buying a gun at any Dicks is a chinese fire drill involving multiple sales reps, a manager and red tape. It's worth paying a few extra dollars elsewhere to avoid the hassle.
I never buy guns or ammo in general sporting goods shops. I deal strictly with gun shops for my firearms and accesories. Gander Mountain expected me to buy Remington Golden Saber 9mm 147 grs. for (brace yourself) $39 per box of 25. Buh-bye, Gander.
I do and I can’t.
Dick’s is next to BJ’s. LOL.
When at home I go to the local WalMart. Buy it right there with a credit card; it’s bagged and I continue shopping. This is in WA a real real real blue state.
I used all of my available credits at Dick's, mostly for premium .223 and .308 ammo. Didn't have to sign any lists or have my D.L. number recorded, as recently as ten months ago or so. I was disappointed when the recycling system was changed - I had a good thing going. I was even hauling home the heavy cardboard from my office warehouse to pump up my points. :-)
Reload.
Shotgun shells, 30-30 and 30-06 on the shelves at my WV Wally-World. Pay cash and you are out the door.
But .22LR-L-S you have to show a DL to purchase...reason being you must be 18 as they can be used in handguns.
He probably isn't. If you check any mail order house's shipping rules, you will always see MA several times in the list of restricted destinations. From my personal experience, neither Gallery of Guns nor Cheaper Than Dirt will sell handguns to customers in Maryland. GunBroker and Gns America are a crapshoot. Some (maybe most) dealers won't sell handguns to bidders in MD-I've had my bids pulled. Long guns are somewhat easier. Ammo is usually OK. But I suspect that MA is worse than MD.
PS, the DL is scanned at the register.
Must be a local issue, the one near me doesn’t do any of that stuff.
heck they make me carry it to the cash register and even make me pay for it. you’re right, they are evil
That’s what you get when living in a Commie State.
What’s a LTC? That isn’t the way Dick’s operates in VA
