Politicians sometimes think they can get away with saying something profoundly offensive or just plain stupid by acting like it was a joke. It never works, just like it didn’t work today when Mr. Romney shamelessly played the birther card in what seems like an increasingly desperate campaign against President Obama.
Speaking in Commerce, Mich., about his Michigan roots, Mr. Romney said: “No one’s ever asked to see my birth certificate. They know that this is the place that we were born and raised.”
Get it? Everyone knows he’s from Michigan, but nobody is really sure where the president is from.
It’s not like Mr. Romney has shunned the birther crowd. He took the stage earlier this year with Donald Trump, who ranted about Mr. Obama’s citizenship. Mr. Romney’s son, Matt, said during the primaries that his father might consider releasing his tax returns if Mr. Obama released his birth certificate and his grades.
In April 2011, Mr. Romney himself used the “well if he says so” dodge that many Republicans love. “I think the citizenship test has been passed,” Mr. Romney said. “I believe the president was born in the United States. There are real reasons to get this guy out of office.”
Citizenship test? Barack Obama did not have to take a citizenship test. And why couldn’t Mr. Romney cut out the “I believe” preamble? The president was born in the United States.
But today’s crack was way over the line. His audience laughed and applauded, probably not because they thought Mr. Romney was doing hilarious stand-up comedy, but because they knew exactly what he was up to...

Romney is clubbing the clown president. The tempo will increase as time goes on. The places he is hitting will as well. Romney wants to be POTUS. He’s getting into Bozo’s head. Romney may be the first educated, elite white guy who not only DOESN’T kow tow to Obozo’s complexion but beats him sensless to boot. This is just the beginning.
I wonder how often she visited and did she ever see her grandchildren but was she dead before they were born...?? how often did his girls see their great grandmother??? was this family ever a real family???

I am in the same boat. I was on my county website months ago trying to figure out how to change parties and get that R off my card. I’m still more likely to write in Virgil Goode but if Romney or his surrogates go Birther on the pos fraud in the WH, I have to reconsider.
I think he also knows this kind of talk really grates at the Kenyan and sometimes prompts him to show his true colors.

Every time I get a mailing from the Republican Party or from the Romney campaign I always send the prepaid postage envelope with a BIG NOTE stuffed in it. It says:
OBAMA POSTED FORGED BIRTH DOCUMENTS
OBAMA FAILS E-VERIFY
OBAMA IS USING ANOTHER MAN’S SOCIAL SECURITY NUMBER
OBAMA HAS A FORGED SELECTIVE SEVICE CARD
AND....REPUBLICANS DO ***NOTHING**NOTHING *** NOTHING ** ABOUT IT

Doesn’t ‘The Times’ know that for about 15 years Obama claimed he was born in Kenya, and that the story changed only when he began to think of running for president?
No one spends over THREE MILLION DOLLARS on lawyers in order to HIDE their birth certificate along with ALL of OBAMA’s other personal records of history unless he has something SERIOUS to HIDE. No one does that, no one. If you want to see my birth certificate I, along with everyone on FR can probably show it to you within a minute. Evil men, HIDE who they are, liars, HIDE who they are, con-men HIDE who they are. Obama has been HIDING EVERYTHING about who he is for years... sadly he fits all of the above descriptions.
