When did deer hunting become “big game hunting”? Teddy Roosevelt hunted elephants and rinos in Africa. Now that’s “big game,” and our prissy media would really have a hissy fit if anyone in public office did that today.
I think it's the hunting, period, that they're supposedly so upset with. Yet when it's someone like Bill Clinton or John Kerry they don't seem to care very much.
We all know by now where Sarah Palin stands on animal issues, but I was surprised and disappointed to read Barack Obama's statements to a hunting magazine.
Obama has told Field and Stream, a hunting magazine, if you talk to sportsmen in my home state of Illinois, they will tell you that I've always been a forceful advocate on behalf of the rights of sportsmen, on behalf of access for sportsmen and hunters. Regarding the future, Obama stated, I think that having a head of the Department of Interior who doesn't understand hunting and fishing would be a problem. And so my suspicion is that whoever heads up the Department of Interior is probably going to be a sportsman or sportswoman.
