CHICAGO, Illinois Mayor Rahm Emanuel stepped off a political cliff when he said Chick-fil-As values were not Chicagos values, and some of his constituents are telling him so on Wednesday, August 1, 2012. And others may choose to do so at the polls during his next election.
The former White House employee obviously forgot that he represents all of Chicagos citizens and not just those who share his views, like the minority that believe in same-sex marriage.
He also appeared to forget that he needs those Christian voters who helped put him into office the first time, like Reginald Baucus, who is the pastor of a West Side church in the state. And some Christian leaders in the state are reminding him of that fact.
Do not disrespect us, warned Rev. Charles Lyons of the Armitage Baptist Church.
And the good reverend wasnt alone in addressing the former White House chief of staffs political blunder, as many Christians in the Chicago community also let it be known that he didnt speak for them either in the Chick-fil-A controversy, including the Cardinal Francis George.
Rahm, who followed Chicago Alderman Proco Joe Moreno in the hotly contested issue, had hoped to use his position as mayor to denounce Chick-fil-A president Dan Cathys statements in support of traditional marriage...

“Chicago Chick-fil-A supporters to Mayor Rahm Emanuel: ‘Do not disrespect us’
Right. Every day you allow this thug tyrant to remain in office is “disrespecting you”.
We are standing boldly and speaking with civility and the subtle thunder in these non angry voices is deafening.
For years people of faith and conservatives have been afraid to speak, 8/1/12 was the death of Political Correctness, thank you Mr. Cathy.
But what I am about to say maybe more controversial, Thank You Glenn Beck. You told us to go boldly with out fear and to speak the truth.
My guess is within the bowels of the DNC, Progressive Think Tanks, and Soros Shadow Progressive Group, they are starting to see that wave on the horizon, and it is starting to dawn on them it maybe a Tusnami....
For me, the crux of this issue is not gay marriage. I do not like gay bashing. Any gay person is someone’s son or daughter and is a child of God. The bashing that goes on gives the other side ample justification for calling us haters. Expressing a view as Mr. Cathy did was not gay bashing and Christians should follow that example.
That being said, the Chick-Fil-A phenomenon is the tip of the iceberg. What’s underneath is a huge mass of anger and frustration at liberals who circumvent the will of the people by judicial activism and executive fiat.
This has been going on for decades. Look at all the referendums in various states that are overturned by courts; at Florida 2000; Kelo; Obamacare; TARP; Porkulus; Frank/Dodd and subprime mortgages; out of control spending; lack of border controls; on and on.
We go to the ballot box with the hope and trust that we live in a representative Republic, yet every time we turn around, we are met with the tyranny of the minority.
These are the issues we should carry into November because they are the winning issues at the top of voters’ concerns.
You can add Gonzaga University "Progressives" to that:
So embarrassed for you. It takes a special kind of wingnut to express support for the First Amendment, and advertise his strangely virulent aversion to gay rights, by standing in line to buy junk food at a fast food restaurant.
The person that posted that spent too many of his waking hours at Jack & Dan's Tavern.
Why would anyone who considers themselves a Christian be a democrat?
The liberal politicians forget the important back story to this whole thing:
EVERY SINGLE TIME HOMOSEXUAL MARRIAGE IS VOTED ON BY THE PEOPLE IT LOSES.
They just can’t wrap their brain around the fact that they are in the minority. Sometimes it causes them to say really stupid things.
Those would be the Robin hood Christians or those who believe in charity at the point of a gun.
A friend’s daughter works at a Chick-Fil-A. They are a strong Christian family.
Anyway, on Wednesday her daughter (let’s call her Judy) was working and there were about ten protesters across the grass from the restaurant on the sidewalk next to the highway.
One of Judy’s friends joined the protesters because he is liberal and agrees with the homosexuals that it is a human rights issue. Because it was such a hot day, Judy decided to take a glass of water to him. When she gave it to him the other protesters assumed she supported them. When asked she said no, but she thought they were hot and could use some water.
The “F” word and various other spittle drenched epitaphs ensued.
Bottom line is that this whole thing is a form of “TEA Party meets OWS”. The differences between the two groups and their “attitude” is striking.
Sadly, I do not think this will end well. The conservatives understand the concept of “speak softly, but carry a big stick”. They are much more well armed than these loudmouth punks and are much more well trained.
that graphic needs to be updated...with the Adam Smith saga.
His firing was the best part of my day yesterday.
It is a valuable lesson to every person about what you put on the internet.
Post of the day Randita, thank you, Copy Paste it and start a thread w/ it. with a title....
Oh, you forgot the GM mess and the abrogation of contract law! :-)... Just kidding :-).
So are mass murderers.
It is CHICAGO, for pete's sake. He only needs a few hundred actual voters and his army of operatives and activists and fixers to win an election.
Here’s the thing: Rahm and the other big city mayors WANT to keep the focus on CFA. They know they wont actually lose because of it, and it provides a good distraction from the issue of inner city violence. ESP black on gay violence (like that recent attack in DC)
True. Many "Christian" and "conservative" "leaders" want the focus to be on this too, to distract folks from the fact that they are supporting for president a man who unilaterally instituted "gay" "marriage," homosexualized the government schools, and thinks adoptions by homosexuals is the way to go.
And since Chicago values consist of political corruption and drive-by shootings, who needs ‘em anyway?
On another thread, I posted this suggestion about how to answer kids' questions about homosexuals.
"There are some people who are mentally ill with same sex affection disorder. We call them homosexuals. Most of them are not bad people, just a little sick. But some are dangerous, so never let one get you alone.
We shouldn't hate them, but we have to be aware of them. That house with the rainbow flag is a house to avoid. It is not right to harrass them or beat them up, but don't let them get too close either. You can be their friend, but not too close a friend.
It is OK to let them know that God loves them, and that we will pray for them to be cured of their illness. Then we should include them in our prayers. Any questions?"
Of course, to liberals, any mention of God is hate speech...
Homosexual, because there's nothing GAY about it!
What I am saying is be real careful with the ‘love the sinner’ thing when you get into the realm of these people. They embrace evil and reject God and all that is good. They are the type who you give a cup of water to and they throw a cup of urine back. This is work for an exorcist, not a sympathethic conservative Christian.
