Could Texas once again become the Republic of Texas?
Without question, the Nov. 6 election will be a do-or-die, make-or-break, Rubicon-crossing event. If the presidential election goes one way, we get a do-over. Well be given the opportunity to take the first step on a long, arduous journey back to our political and economic roots. If it goes the other way, federalism and balance of power will continue to be edged out by an overreaching federal government and an imperial presidency. Socialism will have an unbreakable hold on the economy, and a centralized government, rather than a free market, will determine business winners and losers.

“If Obama wins: Will Texas secede from the union?”
I hope so, and hope they would look favorably on accepting a Davy Crockett brigade from Tennessee as new citizens of the Lone Star Republic.

Correct. And that would seem to argue for the legality of secession. On the other hand, the Constitution does not mention any possible mechanism for secession. That would indicate that secession is illegal.
This is yet another case where the Founders were just plain sloppy. So it just comes down to might makes right.
The Supreme Court has NEVER EVER ruled on secession, not once. If it had been illegal at the time of the War, the leaders of the CSA would have been tried for TREASON after the war, but they weren’t, because the govt was afraid the court would (correctly) rule that the South had the right to secede.
I do hope the time comes when Texas does exercise it’s God given right to be free, I’ll be happy to join the cause. If/when it does happen, I’m sure we won’t ask for permission anyway. Free people do what free people do.
My final thought is this.....10th Amendment, enough said.
Texas gets less back from FedGov than it pays. We'd be better off per capita without the union.
Texas is as large as France and has greater natural resources, including rare earths.
I'd be willing to take my chances.

Kinda like the Protestants???
WE COULD BE THE IGNORANTS!!!
YAY FOR US!!!!
Spoils of war or nationalization. Just like Castro did in Cuba.
Or Drake with the French ships.

If Texas secedes, why would Texans care what that USSC says, whether its legal or not, etc?
Texas hasn't seceded, but what makes you think I do give a rat's pointy little tail about what the Supremes think now? ;)

I have very bad news for you...as much as I would love and support Texas seceding from the the failed states, she will not.
Since 1980, Texas has been invaded by foreigners from her northern, western, and eastern borders...not to mention from the southern border. Texas is loosing her identity. My niece and nephews — all born and raised in Texas — like Texas, but don’t really understand what makes Texas special.
In another generation, Texas will just be another state with an identity akin to Iowa or Nevada...very very sad.
“...except through Revolution.” Indeed.

Texas v. White made it very clear that unilaeral state succession is illegal.
The union between Texas and the other states is perpetual and indissoluble.
When, therefore, Texas became one of the United States, she entered into an indissoluble relation. All the obligations of perpetual union, and all the guaranties of republican government in the Union, attached at once to the State. The act which consummated her admission into the Union was something more than a compact; it was the incorporation of a new member into the political body. And it was final. The union between Texas and the other States was as complete, as perpetual, and as indissoluble as the union between the original States. There was no place for reconsideration or revocation, except through revolution or through consent of the States.
because the govt was afraid the court would (correctly) rule that the South had the right to secede
Then why did the court rule that Texas did NOT have the right to secede?
Its only legal if you win.
And I thought it was a bitch getting my head through the door...
But it gets even worse. In another generation, the enire United States will just be another welfare nation, like today's Greece.
I suspect that the last bastion of western civilization will be New Zealand. Ironic, eh?
What happens in case like that is Texas would seize those assets. And most of the soldiers here would defend that decision. The US would face the decision of fighting or not.I do not believe the US would choose violence. Not only does Texas produce a lot of oil, an even larger percent that comes from overseas is refined right here.
When you choose secession, the laws of the country you are seceding from become annulled. All secessions, revolutions, civil wars, etc are illegal to one side or the other. With cities already going bankrupt and the economy getting worse, Obama will have a hard time recruiting his “army”. The ones he does get will need both hands to hold their pants up.
Yeeehawww!!! I like that! You can come to Texas, if you ain’t already here!
Can we continue to call the New America Flyover Country?
I think that would be a fine official name. "Flyover Country", it kinda rolls off the tongue. And its what the liberals already think of real America...
And no sidewindin', bushwhackin' hornswogling cracker croaker is gonna ruin my biscuit cutter!"
Amen.
