What socialists do when they get in power: "The governing coalition has already fired the speakers of both chambers of Parliament an action the opposition called unconstitutional and replaced the countrys ombudsman, who has the power to challenge emergency legislation before the Constitutional Court.
The (Supreme) courts justices have been threatened with removal before their terms were up, although that idea was scrapped after an international outcry."

Romanians, quit following our 2008 model!!! Copycats!
Hey, look! Another excerpt from your blog.
One that you might have posted in full right here.
Yay.
Wow... a Che Guevara admirer in the seat of power in Bucharest. Things didn’t end well for the last communist in the Presidential Palace.

Welcome back to the USSR Romania. Idiots.
Wow! Just like our POSOTUS!
Time to re-institute “Romanian Term Limits.”

“Welcome back to the USSR Romania. Idiots.”
Romania was never part of the USSR. It was only part of the communist block and had a Soviet imposed communist regime like Hungary, Poland or Czechoslovakia.
I read the Romanian newspapers a lot and it looks like while most of the population supports the newly elected socialist government because of the unpopular austerity measures, the majority of the people are disproving this blatant trampling on the constitution and the government power grab.
I was overseas when it happened. It was all on TV.
It was said that when they asked for volunteers for the firing squad they had to turn more than half of them down. Way too many takers.
What a great day that was, I only wish Jaruzelski met the same fate.
For a long time Ceausescu was “our favorite Commie” because he broke from the Soviet Union on several policies, including refusing to break relations with Israel following the 67 War.
Romania was the only Communist-bloc country that didn’t boycott the 1984 Summer Olympics.

I was there at the time. I was a civilian and had an AKM 47 on my shoulder and two 30 round magazines issued by the anti-communist Militia. They posted me on watch at the road entry in the Constanta harbor as there were rumors that Ceausescu was attempting to flee the country by air or by sea.
Ceausescu also refused to participate in the Warsaw Pact invasion of the former Czechoslovakia.
Ceausescu was certainly an odd duck. A megalomaniacal odd duck.
“For a long time Ceausescu was our favorite Commie because he broke from the Soviet Union on several policies, including refusing to break relations with Israel following the 67 War.”
It was only a deceptive facade to make the West trust him to a degree. The reality was different. His spies were given tasks directly from Kremlin to obtain military and industrial secrets as well as Western technologies the Russians couldn’t get themselves. He was also tasked with deceiving the Israelis and the West in believing he was a fair and disinterested peace negotiator when in fact he was collaborating with Arafat against Israel’s interests (for insurance reasons he also kept a file on Arafat homosexual escapades in Bucharest) See Gen. Ret. Ioan Pacepa’s book “Red Horizons”. As for the type of communist repression he imposed on Romanians most Eastern Europeans believe Ceausescu’s regime was the most authoritarian, repressing and lacking personal freedoms in the entire communist block.
“Romania was the only Communist-bloc country that didnt boycott the 1984 Summer Olympics.”
That was because Ceausescu’s younger son and heir apparent to the throne Nicu was personally invested in the Romanian feminine gymnastics star Nadia Comaneci. She was the (unwilling) subject of Nicu sexual attentions and he wouldn’t have allowed her to miss another 3-4 Olympic medals he could brag about for anything in the world.
I'd put him a close second behind Albania's Enver Hoxha.
Maybe. But from personal experience even the Albanian manufactured cigarettes were considered a luxury in communist Romania.
“...most of the population supports the newly elected socialist government because of the unpopular austerity measures.”
While I agree with your post, let me humbly suggest we avoid employing the socialist lexicon when discussing so-called “austerity.”
Socialist lexicon:
Austerity = absence of government redistribution of wealth
Truth:
Freedom = absence of government redistribution of wealth
Point taken.
