I believe that Obama will conduct a military operation on American soil, complete with ground assault troops and air support on multiple "militia" compounds throughout the country.
He will have reams of emails and phone taps documenting an imminent attack that was thwarted in the nick of time.
He will reluctantly postpone the national elections until order is restored.
In the meantime, the Internet will go dark, in the interests of national security.
A large group of Mexican illegals will be found coming across the border with lots of F&F weapons. A firefight will break out. Obama will try to call in the local national guard to assist local law enforcement. It might even happen in Arizona where Obama issues a hands-off order.
Once Obama establishes control, he will try to create a martial law situation in order to contain the news of F&F weapons being used. It might work for a day or two, as the MSM complies, but the locals will get the word out.
As word leaks, expect some strong-arm tactics against American locals trying to expose the heavy-handedness of Obama's cover-up of the border incursion with F&F weapons.
Once word spreads that Obama has begun detaining Americans for exercising their free speech, Obama will widen the martial law and try to halt the elections, claiming that a national emergency was breaking and that the elections would have to wait for a month or two for the situation to settle down.
Once Obama tries to delay the elections, people across the country will rise up in the streets to prove that there is no national emergency, and that Obama is trying to foment a coup by preventing a losing election from occuring.
It would make a great TNT movie.

Yes, a banking crisis is pretty much the only thing that could bring our entire country to its knees. If that happened, then absolutely we would see martial law and most Americans would be grateful for it.

True, but WHICH military are we talking about? The standing Constitutional armed forces, or the civilian Obama Volkssturm hinted at during the 2008 campaign, and having its foundations laid in the NDAA and the Executive Order of 16 March?

Civil disorder would be the trigger, whether caused by economic collapse, or by the command to the troops to "Get Whitey!" The 1977 New York blackout saw looting and mayhem. The 1992 LA riots started because of perceived racism. Katrina in 2005 saw anarchy in the aftermath of the storm. Two events are coming up fast: the RNC Convention in Tampa; and the outcome of the Zimmerman trial.

Obama has used the US Military illegally to overthrow a legal government and to put radical Muslims in power in Libya.
Obama has used the influence of the US and given $$ to the Muslim Brotherhood in Egypt to overthrow a legal government. The Muslim Brotherhood is a terrorist organization and Obama has a Muslim Brotherhood adviser in the White House.
Obama has withdrawn US troops from Iraq essentially giving the country to Muslim Terrorists.
Obama and his Muslim terrorist buddies have essentially the same plans for Syria.
Obama has done nothing about the nuclear threat in Iran.
So just who is the dummy? You don't even have a clue what our first Muslim terrorist President is doing and why he's doing it and who he's working for and with.

I think he's going to start a war so he can leach off the loyalty to the president during a time of war that we've got ingrained into us.

he may not be able to use the military as the Posse Comittatus act, but he has hundreds of thousands of executive branch armed officers that he can use and is adding more all the time.

Even martial law has some law to it. Obama wouldn’t bother with that - he’ll just start issuing edicts as he sees fit, and we’ll never even know what they are because the net and the airwaves and cables and cell phones and land lines will all be commandeered pretty quick.
