All my friends are bailing out. Taking SS before it's gone but I actually enjoy working my profession. Am I an idiot for not taking what is mine?
My body and my mind has endured the ravages of time but I just can't give up yet and that's the thing.
I'm still 30 yrs old in my head. Who beat them up so bad?
What is about boomers that there such losers.
Work is good for the male soul.
Does not the whole results of the “me” generation prove this?
Was not the “greatest generation’s” work ethic unquestioned?
It seems we have lost our way....work is GOOD FOR a man.
So, if you do “retire” professionally, make sure you have a second vocation.
‘Took retirement’ and still working? Did you falsely inflate your yearly Union salary so your lifetime pension would be higher too? No wonder America is going broke and unemployment is so high.
Let us all agree, that for those of us that pay in “It is Owed” It is not an “entitlement”
Good thoughts. I had a moment of thought the other day. Office where I work (see previous post) is cleaning out file cabinets to long term storage. Younger Co workers wouldn’t let me lug file boxes and I thought bless um I guess I have earned some perks as it were. Being 64 is always such a shock when I think about it, like when the hell did this happen. I still think I can do what I did when I was 30. The knees aren’t what they used to be. Ha.
Hey, I am 52 and doing well also in the computer field. BS, MS, worked for Cray, SGI, IBM, and 3 startups (now at a forth).
What is your development field (i.e. what does your software do?)
The “Me Generation” funded retirement of “The Greatest Nation”
That’s the simple truth.
I lost a good friend and co-worker to a heart attack. He was 44 and exceptionally fit. He was my Oracle DBA as well. A core part of the development team. His brother was born the same day as I was and in the same hospital.
Good perspective!
And Welcome Home!
Are you serious? Dude your moving mountains. Although I’m curious about hacking on open source software. It’s strange that my end of the business is seeing more open source.
Ive been paying in since I was 14.
I demand my money back.
I was 14, too.
We’d have a nice bundle in the bank if we’d saved/invested all that money.
No union or any pension here. Worked private business, last job for over 30 years. Saved my money. Started my own business before taking early retirement/SS. Don’t paint with a broad brush. I paid my ‘dues.’
I’d like to make it to 65 and move back to the family.
I sure dont envision myself jumping out of airplanes and surfing like they portray in the retirement commercials
Exactly.
Everyone on this board payed more than they ask
Keep busy if you wish, but family is more important. Take time to smell the roses. Be well, FRiend.
Punk Boomer? WTF?
I don’t know what it is about those in their 60’s and 70’s but I know a few who suck the system for all they can, feel no guilt about it then turn right around and gripe at the youth for being so greedy.
I give up. When I get my dead ass back tomorrow well try this again
