That's what I've heard as well.
The heat would back them out then made them accessible to remove without leaving their head in.
A hot cigarette end works as well, if you don’t mind a small burn? I’ll take the small burn over many of the disease’s they carry.
Well if your are single and a tick digs in on your back where you cant reach it you got a problem. I used to get bit by ticks all the time when I used to bow hunt in Florida woods in an area that had range cattle.
I swear, the smart ones would find a place to dig in where you couldn’t reach them.
Thats is when you find out who your friends are.
DEET
Yep, I can vouch for that. I walked into a nest of seed ticks at LBL in 1986 and had hundreds crawling all over me. Fortunately, I had sprayed myself beforehand and mitigated the threat, but I was still bitten by a few and contracted Lyme disease from one of the bites.
Just recently heard that rubbing plain old liquid soap on them will make them back out. Haven’t tried it yet, but a number of folks on a local radio talk show called in and said it works.
I hate ticks..... pulled the first one of the season off me yesterday. I first learned about seed ticks when I watched what looked like cinnamon running up my white pants! The best way to deal with seed ticks is to use duck tape. Pulls them all off....maybe some hair as well... but is worth the pain. Those little buggers itch as bad as the big ones do!
I also learned a trick on how to deal with ticks if your horse gets covered. Spray the ticks with pam, wait a little while, then run a squeegee over the horse. They fall right off.
Fantastic! Thank you for adding your recommendation. Their prices are certainly right.
Prior to the evolution of our non smoking culture a well lit Winston cigarette held up next to the tick worked like a charm. I watched my Dad de-tick many a dog and even my sisters and I a few times.
Witch Hazel works, too. Coat the tick and they’ll back out. Just don’t let them get loose...
Sulfur (from the feed store) sprinkled on shoes and pants legs keeps them off. Especially those creepy (what we call) seed ticks.
You can add the lavender (five drops) but not the rose geranium. It does weird things to the rose.
It is important that you do not use fragrance oils, you need to only use essential oils. They are more pricey but they work. The fragrance oils are generally synthetic scents and they don't work for some reason.
The opposite of tick is tock.
Tock.. try that.
Tick, tick, tick...
Ve haf veys uf makink you tock!
It’s true and they are very easy to keep. Probably good eating if they start to breed too much.
I had a guy come to the ER one time worried about a mole that was growing and itching on his back. I took one look and said “That is the most strange mole I had ever seen——it had legs o it” He was so embarressed that it was a tick!!! Look I live in Arkansas and we had tick picking sesions every night when I was a child. Just pull the things off. The whole myth of the head being left is that a myth. No harm. Use a tick spray with DEET. That is the only things that helps. I hate tick but have lived with them my whole life. We find them on patients all the time during examinations some in surprising places!!!
Thanks, sounds like great advice. I will, God willing, give it a try. I met a nice lady at the library who smelled so wonderful and she was wearing essential oil, that she sells. Hope to get a hold of her to buy some. She caused the whole library to smell wonderful. Not only might one be less attractive to ticks, but it sounds like one might smell awfully nice too.
Really!
