On a Saturday?! Who’s even going to notice? Saturday is a day for people doing other stuff, especially in spring. Knock it down on a Wednesday, people will notice, the employers of the world might even thank you.

Generally, I don't go around saying I “hate people”. I'd like to think the number of people I “hate” would fit in an elevator (Mad Bob Mugabe, Castro, Kim Jong Un, etc.)
But these anonymous goons, I'd like to come after them with industrial plastic shredders and blow torches.
Complete parasites, trying to kill what gives them life.

Maybe we should set up a FreeRepublic phone tree for just such occurrences:)

It may only lasts one hour, maybe more, maybe even a few days. Most folks do not realize how much our current everyday life is dependent on Internet.
If these idiots actually even come close to what this is saying it will cost lives as well as money beyond estimation.
They will be hunted down without mercy.

I have a solution:
$100,000 bounty on each one of the heads of those liddle sons o’ bitches, in order to collect the bounty the member of ‘anonymous’ must be turned in to the authorities WITH documented and verifiable evidence of their activities, after conviction AND execution, the bounty is paid.

Perhaps the NBP’s can puta bounty on their heads, dead or alive since this now seems to be acceptable to the authorities.

I don't get it. Isn't that against what they are protesting? I mean they want the internet to be open and not let a small group of people shut it down....so a small group is going to shut it down?? If I were a company that depended on the internet I would offer rewards for anonymous members.

Find these clowns, ship them to Gitmo as terrorists. Let them be so anonymous that they disappear.

Butch Cassidy: Hey. It was Baltimore. And La Fours. You know who else?
Sundance Kid: Who?
Butch Cassidy: Jeff Carley, George Hyatt, E. T. Kelleher.
Sundance Kid: (Looks at the paper.) Jees, we lucked out getting away, you know that? Why would these guys join up and take after us?
Butch Cassidy: Oh forget it. A bunch like that won't stay together long.
Etta Place: They will. If Mr. Harriman has his way.
Sundance Kid: Who?
Etta Place: Mr. E. H. Harriman of the Union-Pacific Railroad. He resents the way you've been picking on him, so he's outfitted a special train and hired special employees. You spent the last couple of days avoiding them. It's really sort of flattering if you want to think about it that way.
Butch Cassidy: A setup like that costs more than we ever took.
Etta Place: Apparently he can afford it.
Butch Cassidy: That crazy Harriman. That's bad business. How long do you think I'd stay in operation if every time I pulled a job it cost me money? If he'd just pay me what he's spending to make me stop robbing him, I'd stop robbing him.

A bunch of punkass dweebs sitting in their parents' basements aren't going to shut down the internet.
My guess is they're just posturing for the cute chick sitting 3 rows over in their philosophy class.......

Gahhhh!
It is difficult enough to stay connected when the local yahoos at the cable company are playing with the lines.
The last thing we need is a bunch of Anonymous Hackers trying to interrupt things.

Just an FYI:
Anyone wanting to know what these geniouses are up to, just read the William Gibson/Neuromancer and Bruce Sterling books. They are wannabee cyberpunks with some actual skill.
But they are following the ethos in those books to the letter. The Alt2600 and Mondo 2000 archives also shed light on their thought process.

“The post, which was then uploaded to Reddit, promises an attack on 13 root DNS servers. Anyone trying to access a website, it promises, will get an error message.”
No, they won’t. The effects would be extremely rare for hours (you’d be reading about it on FR before you actually saw an error yourself), then would grow slowly over a period of day IF NO ONE DID ANYTHING ABOUT IT (and by doing something about it, I’m not saying they even have to fix THOSE servers, we’d just need a “few” backend providers to take action).

Hmmm... Seeing as how the internet was originally designed to survive a nuclear war, I’ll be interested in the results.
