Jeb Bush: Romney Should Pick Marco Rubio as Running Mate

Bush, 59, the son of a president and brother of another, pushed aside any interest in running with Romney. But he has strong feelings on whom he wants Romney to pick as a running mate.

“Marco Rubio,” he said of the freshman Florida GOP senator, who served as a volunteer on Bush’s governor’s campaign. Bush described Rubio, 40, as “dynamic, joyful, disciplined and principled.”

“He is the best orator of American politics today, a good family man. He is not only a consistent conservative, but he has managed to find a way to communicate a conservative message full of hope and optimism,” Bush said.

Romney’s a sure loser in November. I don’t think Rubio would want to destroy his brand that way.

There have been numerous threads on Free Republic about how “natural born citizen” is defined.

And those threads, some quite lengthy, are full of controversy as to what “natural born citizen” really means. Apparently the courts have never given a definitive ruling. In Obama’s case, his being born in Hawaii seems to be all that matters, not who his parents were or their citizenship status.

Realistically, perhaps not within the legal framework you are suggesting, but realistically, nothing is going to be done if Rubio was a VP running mate, or if he ever runs for president in the future. Realistically, nobody is going to stop someone from running for office based on the natural born citizen status.

A better choice would be Brian Sandoval, current governor of Nevada. Former AG, Federal judge and residing governor.. young, handsome and good orator. Also, comes from Harry Reids state... would sit in the US Senate presiding over Harry. Good dynamics.

Hard to believe that there are still people breathing who don’t get the natural born citizen matter. Rubio’s parents were not American citizens when he was born here. I believe that the gutless weenie GOP wants him as potus some day and that’s why they aren’t outraged about O’s fraud and have done nothing about it. They don’t even TALK about it. If natural born citizenship doesn’t matter to presidential eligibility, then why should age (35+) or 14 years US residency?

I am not going to get into that NBC stuff, but I simply wonder if Romney’s ego will allow somebody with more charisma than he on the tickt.

Well, then “etch” would need to pick a dead person for his VP in order to get someone with less charisma than himself.

Marco Rubio was born in this country. What other constitutional qualifications are there?

As far as the democrats are concerned, none.

“dynamic, joyful, disciplined and principled.”

What glorious attributes these are that have escaped our representatives for so long.

No, of course not. But...
"I mean, you got the first mainstream African Cuban-American who is articulate (about American values) and bright and clean and a nice-looking guy," Biden Bush said. "I mean, that's a Republican storybook, man."

The same people who defend Obama’s legal status will use the opposite argument against Rubio ...and win.

IMO, Condi Rice or Allen West would do just fine.

How sad it is that the GOP seems so desperate to not fit the stereotype. So much so they are itching to pick a candidate based on race.

Not that Rubio doesn’t have strong credentials in his own right.

Allowing a level playing field is one thing, but actively hoisting the wrong people forward, for the wrong reasons (i.e. Obama) will lead to our destruction.

Unqualified people that smooth talk and look pretty fpor the cameras didn’t build the greatest nations on earth.....a mixture of boring, fat, old, white men did. They got there based on record, hard work, determination, love of country and a desire to help others. If they were the best at it, what is wrong with that?

Contrast that with someone like obama, no real record to speak of, no hard work behind him, a false determination based only on self fulfilment and no desire to help others aside from his own political friends. A gameplayer not a leader.

I couldn’t care less who they are, what they look like and the day we started turing politics into a reality soap opera was the day we signed our own death warrants as nations.

Average Joe just wants his government to allow that level playing field througout society, keep taxes low, uphold the law, a law as non intrusive and respectful of the individual as possible and to defend the nation.

Politics has taken over, it has been bloated and turned into a crazy, ridiculous popularity contest....just look at the embarassment that is the nomination process. Respectable men, like Gingrich, Romney (his awful politics aside), Santorum being forced to essentially perform like dogs for the camera, mud fight to the delight media elite.

We’re all on a slippery slope downwards and I personally struggle to see how it be changed now such is the social decline that has happened and the people that currently hold huge amounts of powers both on and behind the scenes.

Backstabber: "Two ineligible candidates for the GOP
will void RomneyCARE and our ineligibility.
Like multiplying -1 by itself. And it's for me!!!!!"

"We don't intend to turn the Republican Party
over to the traitors in the battle just ended.
We will have no more of those candidates who are pledged
to the same goals as our opposition and who seek our support.
Turning the Party over to the so-called moderates
wouldn't make any sense at all.""

Well, they should not be able to get away with using the opposite argument against Rubio on this natural born citizen issue.

I really think we need the courts to give a definitive ruling as to what “natural born citizen” means.

There should never be any controversy about presidential candidates qualifications. The standard needs to be explicitly defined, and then either you meet the standard, or you don’t meet the standard.

I’ve heard that the Supreme Court and other courts have privately studied this issue, but, up to now have chosen not to get involved regarding Obama.

Obama may well set a “de facto” precedent that, as long as you were born in this country, that’s enough to meet the natural born citizen standard.

I am afraid that we have lost control of the rule of law and constitutionality. The growing population of people in America who wish for government control is probably never going to be stopped. At tat point government will make its own rules as it goes. This has already been stated by liberal democrats with nary a peep from the right.
