MormonVoices today called on Republican Presidential candidate Rick Santorum to condemn the anti-Mormon comments made by his supporter, and honorary Florida Chairman, Reverend O'Neal Dozier. The New York Daily News and multiple other media outlets have reported that Dozier proclaimed that the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, commonly referred to as the Mormon Church, is racist and said that the Church "is prejudiced against Blacks, Jews and the Native American Indians." He therefore demanded that Republican Presidential Candidate Mitt Romney publicly "renounce his racist Mormon Religion." He claims that in so doing, he hopes "to foster and maintain good race relations here in America."

This election today is not about Mormonism and shame on any people that try to take it off message.
It is about a) the economy b) no-win wars c) gas prices/energy d) cultural meltdown/culture of death. In a word, FREEDOM. (And I might add, within the GOP, about RINO power over the grassroots and whether it will prevail or not.)
A big AMEN from another loudmouth for RICK SANTORUM!
Grow up.
Actually, it’s 5 percent, about 500,000 blacks worldwide who are Mormons.

Unlike Baptists, Blacks have been Mormons since it’s founding, it was just a priesthood issue in till 78.
Jesus only chose men, and only from one tribe. Does that make his sexist and racist?
This is not a road taken lightly. Careful where you all step.
Rick Santorum should call on Mormons to denounce Joseph Smith!
But our people shouldn't be playing the same type of divide and conquer nasty politics which are the hallmark of ObaMao's plan to Balkanize America and set up his type of people as a royal class to decide how government favors are fairly distributed.
Not too many years ago, Roman Catholics were the main targets of the same type of over the top bigotry now directed at Mormons. Then sometime about the time of the Kennedy assassinations, this type of talk became very unchic and uncool, sort of like throwing around the n***** word.
Except that if you delve further into the same type of bigoted sources which hate Mormons, you'll still also find the same type of speech directed against Catholics. Only their versions of facts and criticisms will differ slightly.
It is just that it is no longer fashionable to shout anti-Catholic bigotry in the open. Mormons, of course, remain fair game and a highly fashionable target of these gutter sniping cowards because they are not potential swing voters for the left. They vote overwhelming GOP.
Candidates do need to reign in the fruit cakes in their own campaigns from time to time. This guy is no exception. Santorum's remarks need be nothing any more innocuous than:
"Pastor xxxx's remarks are entirely inappropriate and unhelpful to inject into a political campaign. My own religion has been a topic of bigotry in the past and I have no desire to engage in this sort of rhetoric against others which may not share my faith. Mormons are part of the great American fabric of freedom of religion and have contributed greatly to the conservative values which make our country great. I would welcome support from their community."
Seeing that Bishop Romney regularly gets at least 95% of the Mormon vote, I don’t think Rick has anything much to lose by refusing. Why should he apologize? This is nothing but a veiled attack on Rick by the Romney machine.
That would be interesting!
I think the issue should be heavily debated. If Obamas religion (Jeremiah Wright) is fair game, so should Romneys be. . . . . .
__________________________________________________________
I think the issue can be easily debated and I hope it is. Romney will probably pass on the opportunity but if they ask Romney Mormon questions then they have to ask Obama Rev. Wright question, I don’t think they want to go there.
As far as asking about baptizing dead people, first why should anybody care, they’re dead! The dead people surely don’t care unless you think there is something to what they are doing how could it possibly make a difference. They also keep a record of everybody in some granite mountain, does that offend too? The reason they baptize everybody, including horrible people, and people of other religions that want nothing to do with Mormons is that they believe that if we don’t all have a chance to go to heaven then none of us will. They believe that you have to be baptized to have a chance at going to heaven.
I don’t have a clue what most people think but the MSM talking about religion will open up a can of worms for Obama. People in this country have more respect for religion and freedom to worship than the MSM give them credit for. A lot of people have met and know Mormons, they as a rule make good neighbors even if they are different. People won’t like their good neighbors being made fun of.
We don’t need a religious war. This is kryptonite to the Republicans and they should stay away.
Let Obama make this attack on Mormonism, and he will because they have been gearing up for it. Before he died, Chris Hitchens was already attacking Romney for belonging to a racist religion. It is more divisive hate that this country doesn’t need and we will see it coming from Axelrod. I know of a lot more movements that need to be attacked that are actually dangerous to this nation and I begin with Critical Race Theory.
Frankly, LDS better be careful what they wish for.
The reality of the Mormon church will be exposed like
never before if Romney is the nominee. No punches will be
pulled by the mainstream media. Kolob, “dark and loathesome”, temple ceremonies, it will ALL come out. Everyone in America will become very familiar with the secretive cult and all it teaches ( behind closed doors, of course).
I suspect that’s why they are running all of the mormon.org ads. They see it coming.
You assume the press has to be fair, and assume the press has a conscience. Pretty naive statement.
Jesus also didn't sleep with married women or 14 year olds like Joseph Smith...
Ditto! I'm old enough to remember when Mormons refused to allow blacks in positions of authority. It's a cult.
I have often wondered how Newt could convert to the Catholic Faith with the train wreck marriages and divorces in his past, but if you are Catholic and divorce you cannot recieve sacriments? This is just a QUESTION not intended to start a flame war between the religious factions here on FR.
Thanks.
The Mormon call on Santorum to denounce this attack on Mitt Romney is what I see as brain dead. Santorum is a Catholic.
latest pew research in the US is 3%
Denied priesthood - third class mormons
Denied black teens from being leaders in lds sponsored boy scout troops. Still no repentance for mormonism historic racism. (crickets)
Jesus selected only men from one tribe - lol, mormon mythology. Jesus selected his apostles from the descendants of Abraham - which btw was chosen and under covenant with God - are you calling God sexist or racist? Jesus chose to reveal his resurrected body to women first.
Under the NT, both men and women hold a title of kingly priesthood. Under the NT, women do not rely upon their husbands for salvation. Under the NT there is no Jew or Gentile, slave or free.
Now go outside and wipe that stuff off your shoe since you didn’t watch where you stepped.
I don’t care what the facts are concerning Mormons. A political candidate cannot make any statement regarding the religion of another candidate. This country is not a theocracy.
So does that mean you didn’t agree with going after Jeremiah Wright in 2008?
No, there you are wrong. The country doesn't need to be a theocracy in order to evaluate one's religious beliefs within a political context as one's religion generally forms the basis for one's world view and provides insight into how they would govern.
