I’m amazed by the number of long-standing, active Republicans who are totally ignorant of their party’s history as it relates to Blacks. They’ll ask, “What can we do to attract more African-Americans to the party?” The answer, of course, is to tell the truth.

ALL of them BLACK Texans - a great group shot of the early legislators, probably unknown by a majority of Tx repubs. Wish I could post the photo from a flyer available at Party HQ...

Blacks voted Republican steadfastly up to the period of the assassination of McKinley and the party’s takeover by Teddy Roosevelt. I wonder what happened? Not many Republicans helping to register voters in the 1950’s or marching with Martin Luther King. Not many contemporary Republicans copping to their party’s “progressive” anti oligarchical history.
