Here's the gist..My daughter a senior got into a discussion with other students in her last hour class about President Obama, whether or not he is a good president. As she voiced her opinion that he was a bad president for our country and that she felt he was ushered into office because people were excited to elect the first black president was one reason he was elected and to our detriment he was not properly vetted..
Well the teacher interjected and called her a racist for her opinion. The bell rang and it was left at that.
I'm livid and will be calling out this teacher on Monday.
Just to let you all know, my family is very diverse and we come from many different cultures.
I am married to a man who is 1/16 Sioux Indian. I have 3 hispanic neices and a nephew. I have four African American neices and nephews. My kids never have been taught to judge people on ethnicity. I think our only sin is we are conservative and Christian according to the lefties.
So if you all don't mind praying for me that I will have the wisdom to approach the situation, I would truly appreciate it. My heritage as a hillibilly raised in rural Michigan is a huge dis-advantage for me!
Thanks all!
Explain as a conservative, she’s an advocate for minorities. The smallest minority is the individual. If you’re not for individual rights, you aren’t for minorities.
:-)
Remain calm and pray about this situation. The words will come to you about what to do and say.
Does this teacher have any idea what an ad hominem is? This is ridiculous.
This teacher should define “racism”, and then your daughter should apply the teacher’s definition in a non-racial setting. For instance, if racism is mentioning race at all during analysis (which seems to be what the teacher was saying here), then if a sportscaster says that the defense intercepted the basketball because of a full-court press, is that sportscaster being press-ist? If a historian says that the German people voted for Hitler because they wanted someone who would lead their country back to strength, would that historian be “German-ist”?
This whole reasoning is just so stupid. What a way to suppress analytical reasoning. This teacher would probably argue against censorship, but calling genuine analysis “racist” (bad), this teacher is censoring analysis.
Rather than being put in the unwinnable position of having to defend herself to the idiot teacher I would approach the Principal first and ask if it's school policy for teacher's to call students inflammatory names when they simply answer a question that was posed by the teacher.
LOL! love your answer...
If you don't get a lawyer on Monday, go directly to the superintendent's office first thing in the morning and demand a meeting. Don't bother with the principal. Go to the top to create as much exposure as possible.
Thank you!
Which is exactly what he wants.
She should practice rolling her eyes and muttering, "Lord, help me."
Perhaps you could help her with this. A little role playing if you will. Tell her you're her teacher and then tell her to wash the dishes or clean her room.
It is all about color. We don’t like our country being run by Socialist “RED” values!
I don't talk about race. I make special efforts not to "go there". I am completely colorblind. Race does not exist for me.
If I'm in a conversation with someone and THEY bring up race? Then I call them a racist and I hammer then for their outdated, racist, Jim Crow, Democrat views on the subject. I am relentless and I don't give an inch. To mention race in front of me to be on the receiving end of serious whoop ass.
The teacher your child confronted might be very different from me, but might be quite similar.
I believe we would all be better off if we just stopped that conversation, and also stopped the whole "my family is very diverse, and I am 1/6 Sioux, and yadda, yadda, yadda."
Sorry, but race is a problem in this country because people keep talking about it. The person who brings it up first has made a tactical mistake.
Hey teacher, “it’s the economy stupid”. Unemployment up, total employment down, house values down and not selling, food prices way up, gas prices way up, record food stamps, national debt skyrocketing. And it ain’t Bush’s fault now.
Love it! She is pretty excited to read all your opinions.
Tell your daughter to tell the teacher to STFU.
Thank you..Really that is my personality..but right now I have a split personality on this..Thanks for the wonderful Godly advice.
The "teacher" must prove to you (to your satisfaction):
(a) Why your child is a labeled "racist"
(b) From what source(s) she draws her conclusions
(c) On what authority she can demand your child prove he/she isn't "anything"; be it racist, illegal alien, homosexual, Christian or anything!
You should then:
Demand an apology of him/her in front of the student body
Demand a letter of reprimand be placed in the teachers permanent record
Write a letter to the editor of your local newspaper expressing your disgust
Those would be a good start.
I'd also look into an attorney.
Bring a big framed family photo with a caption, “Our Family.” Take it out of your totebag and set it up on the desk facing the teacher before you say a word. If she asks about it, tell her “I brought a little show and tell.”
Liberals definition of racist = anyone who doesn’t kneel down to 0bama
“My problem is Im afraid by the time Im done, there will be not one person in this school who has not heard about this”
Hopefully so, therefore, not one other child may have to go through this. I agree with post #10. I would NOT allow my child to have to defend her position.... and, at the very least, I would DEMAND that the teacher apologize to her IN FRONT OF HER CLASS.
