Need some Freeper Help Regarding a charge of racism due to Obama Presidency
complete vanity | 1/21/12

Posted on 01/21/2012 9:03:25 PM PST by hope

Here's the gist..My daughter a senior got into a discussion with other students in her last hour class about President Obama, whether or not he is a good president. As she voiced her opinion that he was a bad president for our country and that she felt he was ushered into office because people were excited to elect the first black president was one reason he was elected and to our detriment he was not properly vetted..

Well the teacher interjected and called her a racist for her opinion. The bell rang and it was left at that.

I'm livid and will be calling out this teacher on Monday.

Just to let you all know, my family is very diverse and we come from many different cultures.

I am married to a man who is 1/16 Sioux Indian. I have 3 hispanic neices and a nephew. I have four African American neices and nephews. My kids never have been taught to judge people on ethnicity. I think our only sin is we are conservative and Christian according to the lefties.

So if you all don't mind praying for me that I will have the wisdom to approach the situation, I would truly appreciate it. My heritage as a hillibilly raised in rural Michigan is a huge dis-advantage for me!

Thanks all!

According to CNN, 96% of the black vote went to Obama in 2010.

It is not racist to state a fact.

He’s half white. Just say she doesn’t have anything against him just because he had a white mother.

So, teacher, was Michelle like his first date EVER? (blink, blink)

Yeah, I don't get that. Herman Cain just ran for president and had (claimed to be) girlfriends coming out of the woodworks. And that poor, nice intelligent, athletic (basketball player), 'so clean' fellow from Hawaii didn't have any?

why feel the need to defend yourself as your family is not all “white”?

that is falling into their trap

if you were a southerner here like me you would be constantly barraged by some here on this forum who act no different than this teacher....and play the race card so they can feel superior...the basest if human nature

dont apologize for being white and resenting the attack

tell her to kiss yer butt and report her for screwing with your kid

put her on the defensive

you sure wont change a race lib...not here or anywhere

but you can make her fear you

when i went to private school in the 70s the school feared angry Jewish moms....i learned from that

make school respect u

God bless...we go thru the same junk here in Franklin TN with the occasinal airhead lib teacher...they learn quick though...my 100 pound wifey will get em

For what it’s worth, obama is white. My Girlfriend is a labor/delivery nurse. She has told me that whenever a child is born, it’s race depends TOTALLY on the race of the MOTHER, not the father, so if the Father is white and the Mother is White, the baby is White, period. :)

Calling someone not a public figure a racist is slander. The challenge to the teacher should be to retract the statement or hire a lawyer.

All I can say is that I’m glad I didn’t have a teacher like that. None of their tires would have held air over night.

The recommendations here are all over the map. Some good, some not so good, like kicking the teacher’s ass or threatening to do so. You’re not going to be able to help your kid from a jail cell.

Tread the middle ground. Don’t knuckle under. Don’t let your daughter apologize for a thoughtcrime. Don’t bring up your family diversity; your daughter is entitled to her opinion even if your family were 100% European white bread. Don’t have her try to prove she is not a racist; that is a logical fallacy. It’s impossible to prove a negative assertion and a waste of time even to try. But on the other hand, don’t file a lawsuit or call in the news media until the normal channels have been tried and failed.

I would make an appointment with the principal first thing Monday for a conference with him and the teacher ASAP. If that doesn’t get satisfaction, go to the superintendent. If that fails too, then I agree it’s time to call your lawyer and the news media. But don’t start with the nuclear option. Let them know you know your rights and will pull the legal/publicity trigger if necessary, but that you’re a reasonable person who is gracious enough to give the teacher a chance to correct his grievous error. Tell them you’ll enlist outside help like the Foundation for Individual Rights in Education. And for heavens sake, no threats of violence!

Ok, one last thing.

Do not get caught up in ANY political debate with the teacher. Do not attempt to quote the teacher or your child. Do not put your child on the spot to give details of the conversation. This opens the door for the teacher to lie or evade.

Simply state firmly that the subject matter was innapropriate, inflammatory, and poorly handled. Explain that your child was made to feel extremely uncomfortable and alienated. State that you are concerned for your child. You want her to get the best possible education, and you are sure there will be no further problems now that everyone has had a chance to clear things up.

Keep it simple. Let them know your child has been instructed to not participate in any inappropriate politcal discussions and if there are any further problems they should contact you directly. Give them your cell.

All principals like things to run smooth. They hate anything that makes thier long, hectic days longer and more hectic. I promise this teacher will be instructed to stop making waves.

If you plan on calling a lawyer, find a Republican one! You may possibly get referrals from your local county GOP office..

Ask the teacher to prove the racism charge. The burden of proof is on the teacher.
I could call you an Alien from mars and you could never prove me wrong.

One cannot prove a negative... It’s the same thing unscrupulous politicians do to other candidates/opponents when they ask something like “when is the last time you hit your wife”. I don’t know if I would “allow” your daughter to be confronted like that by her teacher. Perhaps the administrators in the school should know they have a teacher making pronouncements of character flaws in their students that can negatively affect their reputations and the pronouncement itself was made as a response to a political opinion. (Was this in a history class? Did the students initiate the discussion amongst themselves or was this a guided class discussion?)

Your daughter shouldn’t have to defend herself against charges of racism, and the teacher should be modeling better discussion etiquette to his/her students by not launching ad hominem attacks. It’s not even worth arguing the point, IMHO, as you (your daughter) shouldn’t accept the premise of the teacher’s accusations in the first place.

Also, I’m not aware of the atmosphere and demographics at your daughter’s school. What is the background of the teacher making accusations? That would factor into any decision I would make concerning this situation.

That’s just my $.02. I fully admit as to not having had to deal with these issues myself because we homeschooled all of our girls (not making a judgement here - just letting you know that this is all ‘theoretical’ to me and others may have a different view. I’m basing my ideas mostly on my experience with “dirty” tricks by politicians and journalists as the teacher’s comment sounds like a “gotcha” question - damned if you do and damned if you don’t.

Also - if you daughter does decide to take on her teacher in this make sure she sees how Newt Gingrich dealt with Juan Williams who accused him of being a racist during the debate. (Gingrich has had a lot of exp. in dealing with these types of attacks though, and we’re talking about a teacher and a student - if she has to survive this teacher’s class to graduate or not screw up her “permanent record” you must take that into consideration as well.)

Good luck with whatever you decide - prayers for you both.

What would you do if the teacher had called her a pedophile or child abuser? The teacher has falsely and maliciously injured your daughter’s reputation.

On Monday she is suppose to prove to this teacher she is not a racist.

If it were my daughter, I would suggest that she respond thusly:

Why, exactly, should I care what you think of me?

If the teacher continues to push her into an argument, her response should be along the lines of: But that would imply that I care what you think of me. I don't; therefore, there is no purpose in having this discussion.

If the teacher continues to berate her, her response should be: I don't have to continue listening to your unprofessional language. It is unbecoming any human being, much less one who allegedly has a degree from a university and a professional certification. I am going to the office. And she should pack her stuff up and go.

Meanwhile, you need to pull up news articles from late 2008 and early 2009 that support your daughter's assertion and present those articles to the teacher's principal...thus substantiating your daughter's assertion.

Above all, don't let her get dragged down into the sewer of an argument with a teacher. You do it for her.

And if you don't make any progress, withdraw her from the school.

1. Your daughter is going to fail if she tries to prove she's not racist directly.

2. Perhaps she wants to go with a different path - asking whether her mixed-race status is the reason this teacher is questioning her motives? If she points out that she is mixed race (part Sioux), that she has seven mixed-race first cousins, Hispanic and African American, and that she was raised to judge others by the content of their character and not by the color of their skin, that might make the teacher drop the topic.

3. Whatever path your daughter takes, this teacher will probably hate her forever. Hopefully she will find a strategy that neutralizes that leftist hatred.

The teacher deserves to have the living snot knocked out of them.

Obama's level of incompetence is so exceeding we can't even breech the topic of face before we've totally and completely dismissed him as an utter disaster for our nation based on the sheer stupidity of the idiotic thoughts he promotes as alleged policy for our nation.

Race isn't even a dim thought at this point.

However, if we have to expand on the matter, he's half white, not black. I don't care about the nature of his birth or the mile-long suspect list on who his father was. I care about the impact his treasonous regime has on my beautiful moreno children and the threat his administration poses to their future and for all our kids.
