Rick Santorum deserves another look

In an age when politicians mourn the fact that they only have two sides of their mouth from which to speak, Rick Santorum is unabashedly pro-life, pro-family and pro-traditional marriage. He doesn’t waffle; he doesn’t back-step; he doesn’t sashay. Rick made this clear as far back as the Clinton administration.

When Secretary of State Hillary Clinton was first lady, she published a book titled, “It Takes a Village,” which was premised on the notion that it takes the work of the entire community to properly raise a child. Santorum immediately shot back with his own book, “It Takes a Family.” In it, he made a compelling argument that the breakdown of the family structure is the root cause of many, if not all, the country’s social ills.

He may not be perfect but from a conservative perspective I haven’t found a reason to not like the guy. I hope he and Newt do really well today. My dream is a #3 for Mitt.

I agree he deserves another look and in 2016 I will be looking at him again.

Right now he isn’t quite ready.

If he’s the nominee, then I’ll look at him. In the meantime, I’m voting for Newt.

He doesn’t waffle

Yeah, he should have waffled when he found himself full steam ahead slamming conservatives when he supported that monster backstabber Snarlin’ Arlen.

It’s time for him to get behind Newt and stop playing the part of Romney’s spoiler.

Rick’s a nice guy, but that’s all. If he drops out, Newt will storm into the convention as the clear GOP candidate. We could really use a little solidarity after the way the media (and a lot of so-called conservatives - Rove, you non-magnificent bastard) have done everything they can to destroy any surging GOP candidate except Willard.

I will not be bashing Newt Gingrich here today. I am also aware of the new endorsement of the founder and manager of this esteemed independent conservative opinion board Free Republic which I have enjoyed for 12 years.

But I sure will have some things to say about Mitt Romney, that no-good RINO.

Having said that, yes, Rick Santorum is one of the best guys out there. HE IS NOT THE ENEMY. The enemy first and foremost is BARACK OBAMA--he wants to take us straight into Bolshevism with himself and his inside-track cronies at the privileged elite top. The main impediment within the GOP to getting Obama out of office is MITT ROMNEY and toadies like Fox News, Karl Rove, Laura Ingraham, Michael Medved, Juan, Cindy and Meghan McCain and their ilk.

Let us agree to have our disagreements, and let the chips fall where they may, but let us not pile on out of campaign zeal against people who have always been on our side, whom the libs and gay-agenda and Big Government types hate with a passion, and who has a number of solid conservative endorsements this time going around, in a sweater vest with not a lot of money just going from town to town in a truck and kicking up dust, winning Iowa on a budget and doing it all I am truly convinced from his heart. God Bless Rick Santorum and I hope he does exceeding well today in South Carolina.

Is there a second?

I like the guy and despite prevailing FReeper sentiment, just being the angriest guy in the room isn’t going to get the job done.

Give him a conservative congress and he could be a great president.

I like him too - and he got a raw deal in Iowa but like most Conservatives, he just sucked it up and moved forward. I respect that. Hope he and Newt clobber Mitty.

A first and second place finish in South Carolina today, with Mitt RINOney in third, and the two conservatives topping the vote, with Paul left in the anarchist dust in a distant fourth, would be fun indeed, and the news, especially FAUX NEWS would have cr*p all over their faces. I would LOVE to hear their spin. I would LOVE to see that Karl Rove’s face. Why his head would explode in anger. I would bet he would deny all media interviews. Today is going to be one crazy day indeed. Let the battle begin. ;-)

If he had the groundswell and gravitas that’s rolling Newt right now, there’d be no begging people to look at him. Nuff said.

“...and despite prevailing FReeper sentiment, just being the angriest guy in the room isn’t going to get the job done.”

I agree.

If Newt picked him for VP (probably not too likely) then he could KILL Biden in the debates, especially on the Catholic pro-abortion issue.

Wouldn’t it be something if Newt and Santorum came in 1 and 2 today?? Wonder if a trashcan could fit over the Rovian head?

He needs another look. The one he has in the debates looks like he is on the verge of tears. He can’t criticize his opponents without whining. The voters deserve another Santorum look.

I don't think Rick is a bad person per se, but he hasn't done the conservative movement any favors by going after Newt. Our focus right now should be on defeating Mitt Romney, our common enemy. After THAT, let the chips fall where they may.

Fellow Newt nuts, Santorum supporters...you want to energize the base? You want conservatives to get excited about your candidate? Beat the establishment into submission by forcing Mittens out. No matter who wins the nomination after that, he'll have a strong core of support that's ready to put the screws to the ultimate establishment candidate: Barack Obama.

United we stand.

Funny how Karl Rove was this great guy, all around Free Republic some six, eight, ten years ago. Now, NOBODY CAN STAND HIM.

And for good cause.

He is what is wrong with the Republican Party. Corrupt. Deceitful. Full of scorched earth tactics and dirty tricks for conservatives who get in the way. Lobbying W to keep our porous borders open for the non-existent Latino vote mirage (thousands dead as a result of being killed by illegal aliens on our own soil). Quite frankly I have had enough of that Texan and I hope today South Carolinians really stick it to him and put it where the sun don't shine, so thes RINO/GOP elitists get an earload from us in the rank and file.

I want whoever gets the nom to work for it.
Even if Ronmney ends up taking the nom at least, he has to pretend to be passionate about conservatism. He has to make crap up that he doesn’t really believe. However, later people will be able to say, “Hey,you said during your campaign, you stupid lier face, that you would repeal OCommieCare???”
Anyhow, its still way early in the process.
