The Mayor of Newark, New Jersey is making an offer he hopes city residents cannot refuse -- report your gun-owning neighbor, get $1,000.
In a video, Mayor Cory Booker holds ten $100 bills as he explains how the new program works. People just have to anonymously call a number to report someone with an illegal gun and they get the dough.
Here is the video:
“My neighbor owns a gun. His name is....” BANG!
Truly frightening! Where does this POS get off using taxpayer money in this way?
Umm. Very telling comment. Please don’t mine if I don’t respond in kind.
This is great. One can call the tip line and ensure the place one wants to rob has no means of defending themselves, AND I get a cool grand for it? This really is a win-win.
Umm, s'okay comrade.
Wouldn’t be surprised if the Police Unions designed this program as a cash cow for themselves.
Cops in Newark are just another armed gang, granted they are only the second or third strongest gang, but they got the badges.

Welcome to the Peoples Republic of New Jersey.
Didnt they have these types of informants in various Socialist Nations in the past?
Isnt this how the NKVD was able to control the citizenry?
Whats to stop someone from informing on someone they dont like as revenge irregardless if they have gun?
Do we really want to go down this road?
In the People's Republic of New Jersey, it has a bayonet lug or a collapsible stock and a pistol grip, the magazine holds more than 15 rounds etc. etc.
There is NO requirement to register guns in the state, just gun purchasers. If you move to New Jersey and your guns are not specifically prohibited (essentially the "assault weapon" ban and magazine capacity limit) and you are not prohibited by statute from owning a gun, you are entitled to bring along every gun you own. You are also entitled to keep it in your home, place of business, take it to the range, etc. There is NO requirement to register your guns.
Again, I think this is just grandstanding by the Mayor. Or he doesn't know better, which is doubtful.
Didn’t ya know that they are all powerful a nd can do anything they darn well please?
Damn the Constitution and all of that stuff from those old dead white men!

Want to have some fun with this? Heres how:
First get a piece of crap gun and, if you can, a doobie or two. Plant said items on the property of a City Councilcritter or better yet a Judge. Call tip line and give them this info.
Sit back and watch the hilarity ensue.
Possession without a permit to purchase/firearm purchaser ID is illegal. If your nose is not clean you can't get one. If your nose is clean but your local cops don't like you your paperwork could get "lost".
Don't even think about a carry permit unless you are politically connected or in law enforcement. You have to prove NEED, and there's never enough proof.
Bottom line, the only way to be reasonably safe is to NOT be a law-abiding citizen!
I am trying to understand what the police are supposed to do when they get an anonymous tip. Get an anonymous search warrant?
Just the mention of that scumbag's name on a firearm thread makes my blood boil. He has harmed this nation's RKBA more than any other single human IMO.
I beg to differ. In NJ, this is patently untrue. Example: I inherit 1000 handguns & 1000 long-arms as an heir (I'm not this lucky - it's hypothetical). I have no legal duty under NJ state law to file ANY paperwork and I am protected from prosecution under NJ Statute 2C:58-3 paragraph j.
As was stated earlier in the thread, the laws are written around the sale/transfer of firearms, not simple ownership.
I personally think Cory's been smoking crack with the Brady bunch.
When they came for [fill in the blank] I did nothing because I wasn’t a [fill in the blank].
How is it there is so little knowledge and understanding of liberty anymore?
“Possession without a permit to purchase/firearm purchaser ID is illegal.”
I believe here in NJ the permit is to own, and therefore must be presented to purchase. The local police is just for filing you paperwork/getting fingerprinted - the State Police do the background checks. At least that was how it worked about 20 years ago (for long-arms).
If someone gave me a gun, or I buy one, I don’t have to do anything in terms of the local police; we still don’t have gun registration (which would be scary) thanks to the NRA. We have licensed owners, or unlicensed ones that are breaking the law.
