The Mayor of Newark, New Jersey is making an offer he hopes city residents cannot refuse -- report your gun-owning neighbor, get $1,000.
In a video, Mayor Cory Booker holds ten $100 bills as he explains how the new program works. People just have to anonymously call a number to report someone with an illegal gun and they get the dough.
Here is the video:
Ping!
What constitutes “illegal possession” in this festering bunghole of a city — simple ownership? Is private ownership of a gun illegal here? How does that square with the Second Amendment?
Uhhhhhhhhh.....
If one calls anonymously, how do they know who to give the money to???
If I hate my neighbor, I’ll stash a Jennings on his property. Not a bad deal.
An AWFUL idea, for a thousand obvious reasons.
It IS a great incentive to set people up, and I can
just see a thousand ways this idea could and will make
things in this area a thousand times WORSE, and MORE complicated, and in fact CREATE a different kind of crime,
with the promise of a quick grand for a little information.
Maybe the tip line can be overloaded. Report the mayor. Report the city council. Report every police officer and the dog catcher's assistant too. If they get thousands of calls that all have to be investigated, even if it is just to check the "more equal than others" list it can jam the entire system.
Holy cow...
Hitler, Stalin and Mao would be proud!
There is an excellent chance that any convictions obtained under this Newark program will get tossed by the NJ Supreme Court, never mind the US Supreme Court.
There is an excellent chance this just means he's running for Lautenberg's -- who turns 88 this month -- Senate seat in 2014.
Wouldn’t it be nice to know that the former owner of the mayors house had stashed a gun somewhere and forgotten about it!
That never occurred to Booker the boob.
Ahh...use Alinskys rules against them.
Jennings is a good choice for a throwdown. Anybody need a couple of Lorcins?
I don’t think he needs to offer $1000. I bet he can get people to call in for a mere $300, considering where the calls will come from.
I think this is a better use of the money than a “gun buy-back”.
The big problem here is that the cops will have to go in hot since they are dealing in each case with a possible armed person. Lots phony calls will cause lots of law suits or maybe a few dead innocent people.
How many nanoseconds before a Newark resident offers a reward for an illegal mayor?
“Start Snitchin’!”
What makes you think the cops will "go in" at all?
Just as in everything else in a liberal hell-hole, "Holder's people" will be exempt from enforcement.
This is just another effort to disarm future victims and make the 'hood safe for the bro who needs to improve his financial position.
I proposed a $5,000 bounty on reporting illegal guns to the new Chief of Police here in Richmond, VA about 5-6 years ago at a meet and greet. He rejected it based on the number of false calls it would generate.
As opposed to rejecting it just for being a stupid idea?
