They view America as a Christian culture that has prospered due to one long history of crime against minorities or race, gender, sexual preference and religion including his own...which is patently false...especially for him.

I think they externalize their own inner twistedness or dissatisfaction and place blame outside. It's easier.
If you are part of the now protected class, drinking the elixir of victimhood is tempting. Most do not rise above it.
