Ron Paul is surging in Iowa according to the latest polls, but if the libertarian Texas Republican does become the flavor of the week, his foreign policy views will likely leave Republican voters with a sour taste.
The latest IBD/TIPP survey asked respondents which GOP presidential candidate they preferred on four issues: the economy, budget/taxes, health care and foreign policy. Paul is third behind Mitt Romney and Newt Gingrich, being the preferred choice by Republicans on the first three issues by margins of 9%, 10%, and 6%, respectively.
As todays IBD story touched on, Paul is weakest on foreign policy, where he is the choice of just 4%, tying him with Jon Huntsman.

“I’ve never heard a conservative call another conservative a neo-con. It’s a liberal slur, and I resent you throwing it in our faces, just because most of us happen to disagree with Ron Paul.”
Are you a neo-con? If not, then the label doesn’t apply to you. There are also paleo-cons, libertarians, Christian conservatives, etc. on this website.
“It worked for King George III and Hitler....”
Really? King George III lost the crown jewel colonies and apparently went mad. Hitler was defeated and committed suicide. Not exactly victory in my book.
If Paul was going anywhere it would have happened well before now. He is a known commodity.
I’ve moved away from the Bush style foreign interventionism myself but Paul goes way too far. Except for foreign aid his foreign policy views jive pretty well with Dennis Kuchinich do they not? Talking about Islamic terrorism like it’s a law enforcement problem and going out of his way to mention Timothy McVeigh all the time. Give me a break. For this reason his is not viable, GOP voters know him and have rejected him, no matter how good he is on most everything else. Half of his supporters are code pink wackjobs and college age potheads.
It saddens me.
“And please do us a favor and spare the tired canard that libertarians and Ron Paul supporters are nothing but marijuana legalization advocates”
When it stops being true, then I and others will stop using it. However, it is still true. Liberatarisn are libertines. Ron Paul is not a conservative of any stripe except maybe fiscal. However, even there he is wacky.
I don’t understand why anyone would support him, except as an absurd protest.
Ron Paul and his band of Frenchlike monkey drones would add "taking oil fiels" as another bullet point to why they hate us eh?
How is taking oil fields part of an isolationist policy? It isn't, but that is the confused mind of a Ron Paul drone.
It's not complex at all....check out how even a lib like Tim Russert pwns the clown from Lake Jackson.
REP. PAUL: I vote against it, so I don't endorse the system.
MR. RUSSERT: But when it passes overwhelmingly, you take the money back home.
REP. PAUL: I don't take it. That's the system.
Wrong Paul - Adds earmarks, votes against them, then spends the money anyway. Mr. Constitution!!!!
Pychobabble
Paultard is going way too easy on you guys....I like the term Paulhroids (the hemmorhoids of American politics).
To normal Americans who love their country, even with it's faults, Ron Paul is a nut case. To his drones, this seems odd and worthy of your "shill" spew. Ron Paul suckers his drones into believing anything, as you typify.
Here is a wacked-out statement from your idol/god
Ron Paul Says We Just Need A Few Submarines to Defend America
Is it me, or is blind worship of your fellow man extremely creepy?
Logic - Ron Paul style
Insults, Alinsky style, aka lame-assed flame bait.
“No Paul will provide a well defended country who will trade with others but makes it clear that it has no business sticking its nose in other countrys business.”
Plus any war we would get into under Pauls watch would have to be declared by congress.
Can I rewind that tape where you said I should not ask a question if I don't know the answer?
It's the truth...
Locic - Ron Paul style
Work on that "thinking" thing some more. You're not quite there yet.
FreeRepubic is a Conservative Forum, not a friendly place for
Sorry, I mispelled FreeRepublic
Every other New Deal neocon RINO that’s tried to get me to leave FR in 13 years has failed. What makes you think you’ll do any better?
YOU are throwing around a liberal slur on a conservative website. Conservatives don't call each other teabaggers, and they don't call each other neo-cons.
ONLY liberals throw those slurs around.
Read post 132 again. You got the intent precisely backwards.
Don't you realize that you are making my point? To make Ron Paul look sane, you idol worshipers have to make up things about Conservatives here on FreeRepublic by throwing the "New Deal Neocon RINO" regurgitation.
Just what are the policies advocated by "New Deal neocon RINO"s?
Acceptance of the "substantial effects doctrine" of the Commerce Clause, and denigrating anyone who rejects it as being in violation of the original intent of that power. Attempting to subvert any argument that would restore authority taken by Congress under that doctrine to the States.
“Ron Paul isn’t a conservative, but a nutjob libertarian. Condemning his liberal foreign policy positions isn’t “eating our own.”
You prove my point. ANYONE would be better than O.
I just don’t want to see another Dole or McCain rolled out and expect anything to be different.
