Ron Paul Soars In GOP Race, But Foreign Policy Views Are An Albatross
IBD's Capital Hill ^ | 12/13/2011 | Sean Higgins

Ron Paul is surging in Iowa according to the latest polls, but if the libertarian Texas Republican does become the flavor of the week, his foreign policy views will likely leave Republican voters with a sour taste.

The latest IBD/TIPP survey asked respondents which GOP presidential candidate they preferred on four issues: the economy, budget/taxes, health care and foreign policy. Paul is third behind Mitt Romney and Newt Gingrich, being the preferred choice by Republicans on the first three issues by margins of 9%, 10%, and 6%, respectively.

As today’s IBD story touched on, Paul is weakest on foreign policy, where he is the choice of just 4%, tying him with Jon Huntsman.

“Why would I? I don’t happen to take that position. Iran **IS** dangerous.”

The you didn’t notice, but that is what I responded to.

However, I see you are just in “smart guy” mode as you work down the thread spewing BS without a care as to what was being discussed. Aren’t you?

Ron Paul, on foreign policy, is either insane or and idiot. There is no third option except he may be an insane idiot on foreign policy.

His has NO business running as a GOP candidate. He should be a third party candidate which in reality he is.

IMO, I condsider his as bad an option as Romney. Should the GOP go totally bonkers and nominate Ron Paul....I will not vote for him in a general election anymore than I would Romney.

“Unfortunately, this site tends to get bogged down in the too-loud squealing of neo-cons who can’t stand Ron Paul’s foreign policy views.”

I’m not a neo-con I’m a moral conservative. True moral conservatives, except the young or naive, realize that Libertarians like Paul are actually libertines and NOT morally conservative. The man is just weird, and needs to fade from the public view....a rest home would be a good place for him where he can’t harm himself or others.

The only reason Paul is soaring in Iowa is for two reasons, one, Newt Gingrich is a big government Republican and two, Ron Paul’s well-organized in Iowa.

Ron Paul is a non-starter ... if he had his way with this Country... MILLIONS of people will die, over there and over here as well. He needs his NUT examined

The Republicans will get you little incursions.

The Democrats will get you wars caused by allowing evil to breed.

Ron Paul will get you an all out world war, not immediately but with 10 years.

Good blog. Wish Ron could be a threat though.

And the question is still on the table as to why RP is the only candidate the Republicans seem to have that's not big government.

It's like he's their poison-pill for constitutionalists, put there as a target to make the constitutional originalists look crazy and provide cover for the neocon revisionists.

Well guy, I have been active here at FR since 98 and the more I read about libertarianism, the better I like it.

Perhaps it is not your cup of tea, but we really don’t like name calling and insults here.

I could give a flying fig whether you support Paul or not.

Libertarian foregin policy is about defense and targeted offense that goes after the leaders, not the troops.

Perhaps you and other attackers of Paul and libertarianism need to read up a bit on their political philosopy before opening your mouths and sounding like ignorant blowhards. I recommend Charles Murry Why I am Libertarian and the Uncle Eric series.

A little education never hurt.

Makes no sense for the TEA Party to support Newt. Newt is everything the TEA Party is against. Then again, the TEA Party movement itself has been hijacked by big government RINO’s Dick Armey and his FreedomWorks coalition, hellbent on keeping their fingers on the power switches in Washington.

You're supposed to believe it'll be better than Obama, and that they'll have better candidates next time. Again.

Either you care about foreign policy or you don’t. I doubt most voters really give a rat’s rear end until something bad happens.

I admit it. You caught me. I WAS going to go down the thread and deliver ad hominem attacks, call those who disagreed with me names, and act as an all-around jackass, but I noticed that you had those bases pretty well covered. So there was nothing left for me but the “smart guy” mode.

But nosiree. You were just too smart for that and outted me!

So have a nice night.

“A little education never hurt.”

You’re wasting your time. These Ron Paul threads on FR are a neo-con echo chamber. The point is to be the one to scream the loudest, not the one that brings light or common sense to the debate.

What’s happening in Bingoboingostan is not nearly as relevant as what is happening to me in my own neighborhood.

“True moral conservatives, except the young or naive, realize that Libertarians like Paul are actually libertines and NOT morally conservative.”

So what’s your definition of a true moral conservative? Someone who opposes infanticide, such as Ron Paul does, or is it something else? (And please do us a favor and spare the tired canard that libertarians and Ron Paul supporters are nothing but marijuana legalization advocates.)

I think that some of the GOP candidates aren't very unqualified, that some are RINOs, and that a couple aren't that bright, but I only consider one actually to be evil, and that's terror-excusing, America-blaming Ron Paul.
