Romney Campaign Still Sees Perry as Threat
Race 4 2012 ^ | December 2, 2011 | Matt Coulter

Posted on 12/03/2011 3:12:38 AM PST by Cincinatus' Wife

This is really interesting:

An adviser to Mitt Romney’s presidential campaign says in a new book that the campaign was not happy to see former Godfather’s Pizza CEO Herman Cain’s campaign rocked by allegations of inappropriate behavior dating back to the 1990s.

“We didn’t want [opposition research] on him coming out. We wanted him to stay where he is. He keeps Perry down,” the anonymous aide said, referencing Texas Gov. Rick Perry.

The comments were reported in the new e-book, “The Right Fights Back,” which chronicles the 2012 Republican presidential race so far…

Even when Cain polled high, Romney never made an effort to attack him, likely because he never saw the former businessman as a real threat. On the other hand, Romney clearly sees Perry as a threat to his campaign, as evidenced by his constant attacks on the Texas governor.

Rick Perry does have all the money, organization, and endorsements that Newt Gingrich lacks. And he has been spending a lot of that money in Iowa running positive ads (in preparation for a huge negative ad campaign reportedly to be focused on Romney and Gingrich). Romney still sees something in Perry that makes him wary of the Texan.

"...Pretty funny that Perry’s biling..."

Sorry, but if there's anybody on FreeRepublic that's been "biling", it'd be you.

[couldn't resist]

I agree with your assessment of Newt. His self coronation yesterday was extremely unflattering. His narcissism is going to hang him.

Perry will carry Texas, don’t you doubt that for a minute. Where are you getting your erroneous information?

When it’s a back brace due to his back issues, but you made fun because you thought it was “a corset” or thought it could be campaign cash stuffed in, then there’s not a problem with what’s in the “ill-fitting suits” - to quote you - there’s a problem that your thoughts on it were so very, very, very, very, VERY FAR off the mark.

Readers are left to discern why your thoughts on Rick Perry are so OFF.

And why should they care what your OFF thoughts are.

A lot of tasteless, classless jokes are pretty funny.

Those are the ones that tell far more about the people spouting them then they tell about the target of their joke.

Not to mention what they reveal about the cheering section...

Mitt and Liz sitting in a tree, K-I-S-S-I-N-G!

What a refreshingly even-handed, well articulated comment.

I could proffer where he’s pulling the erroneous information from, but I don’t use language like that.

Santorum really should be a perfect candidate if you’re a Social Conservative.

Before Santorum becomes the next "flavor of the week", let me remind this forum that Santorum cannot even win his own state. Pennsylvania fired him long ago.

Walter Mondale only won 1 state in 1984, but at least he won his own!

Because it fits so perfectly with the tenor of the posts she was responding to.

Why are you even here?

Go play around on a Cain thread, and let the Perry people have their fun!

Gotta leave this fun place and check out a state playoff football game.

Can’t help myself, I’m Texan to the core.

Great to have you here, Mc.

The botoxed babe...

This may comes as a shock to you, but most Texas women carry a beauty that others cannot match. I guess that is why all the catty comments are coming in from the other citizens.

If you really wish to spew vile anger, why don't you try a different board?

Clever of you, but you might as well tell “liz” to stop breathing as to tell her to go somewhere other than where she can trash Perry directly to Perry supporters. What is life about, if not that?!

Newt is an interesting phenomenon.

He led us to the promised land with soaring rhetoric once before.

However, he squandered all that because he's a better candidate than he is when he actually has to do the day-to-day work of leading. It bores him. He lacks focus.

Ask some of the congressmen who tried to work with Newt when he was speaker. Ask Tom Delay, who got very frustrated with Newt's inability to concentrate and get the work done.

Newt ended up quitting. He will not be a good president but he's a thousand times smarter than Obama. And a thousand times a better person. But, then, who isn't?

Obama has a similar attention deficit disorder to Newt.

If Newt manages to hold onto this lead he's built and gets the nomination, he can beat Obama.

Then we better all pray that Newt has matured enough to focus in office and not wander off into the horse latitudes. He was unable to work successfully with his own party when he was speaker.

I hope that Newt has changed and matured. I see no signs of it.

Perry's fellow Texans aren't buying his snake oil, either......it's pretty bad when you can't carry your own state. Perry can't win a poll in Texas. When you're its Governor, that's not exactly 'good' (snicker).....

Looks like Perry's hubris is taking him down....and his utter stupidity........

Thinking trusting Texans would stay silent about the Perry they have unfortunately come to know......the Perry who promised NOT to run for president if they reelected him.

Promising not to run...... WITH THREE PACs THAT WE KNOW OF, TEEMING WITH MONEY, for his PLANNED entry into the 2012 race.

Cunning Perry knew he had to be reelected governor----b/c his 2012 plans would not resonate otherwise.

Vote-crazed Perry was willing to promise anything for a vote.

Right on, but before she can leave for a different board, we should ask her to post a pic of herself so we can place it side by side with Anita’s for purposes of comparison...
