Mind if I ask if you are disabled? Is it still valid?

I believe the contact info is false. Look through all the early comments about the video.

Fact is that is why this might be a bunch of talk. If you are not a real veteran it won’t take a real vet long to catch you!! Also when I was in the service I had some drinks bought for me but not that many!!

No I was not disabled. It is only good for identification I can’t buy at the b-ex or anything like that.

We run into a couple of these guys a year at Legion and VFW events. Easy to spot (I have a standard set of questions that anyone who has ever served would easily answer - specific to each of the Services, to include the Coast Guard). They are attracted by the free stuff and a need to have someone love them.

Usually, what you run into are guys (never met a woman pretender yet) who served in some minor capacity. Most common, the person was in the Civil Air Patrol, US Naval Sea Cadets, Young Marines or JROTC but too much of a looser to actually enlist. They love to claim Ranger, Marine, SEAL or SF. Very easy to ask a couple of questions that immediately outs them on the spot.

Rare to meet anyone impersonating an Officer, unless they are claiming to be a Fighter Pilot.

So, this guy is another one of these asses, but consider how pathetic his life is to do this, then punch him one or two more times for me. Thx

From the comments on the YouTube post, it will not be long until that video is removed, but it now exists forever.

Semper Fi (and I earned the right to say that!)

It's a bit strange to me that you'd get one. After my nine years in the Navy, all I got was my DD-214. (Now, I've got my VA medical card.)

My guess is the Pink ID was issued because there was a commitment to the Inactive Ready Reserve (IRR), as opposed to the Active Reserve (AR) for a period of 2 or more years. That was common prior to the late 90’s, and then they started switching to a different ID Card format (with the smart chip and bar code).

Yes, everyone who served, regardless of need, should go to the VA on discharge and register. They put you in the system and issue a VA ID Card.

Have they ever updated it or is this the original?

The reason why I ask is that they’ve changed since then.

I guess they quit giving them. They’re of little use , other than I might could use it to get a few drinks while I’m telling those old war stories. The grandkids are tired of hearing them.

me too. they never took my green card...I ended up losing it. I had to go to a Marine Corps reserve depot to get the new id, which was pink. I don’t have that one anymore, either.

I forgot to add to my above post that even if you never need or use the VA, having your name on the rolls adds to the lobbying power of the VA. This helps in keeping Congress from forgetting what side of the bread the butter is on when it comes to VA funding.

Pink?

It's blue. Unless they have changed it recently.

“I believe you only get an ID card if you retire after 20, are in the reserves/guard or are disabled.”

As long as you did 2 or more years active duty time, you qualify as a vet.

GO to your VA office, bring your DD214 and get enrolled.
