Today, the Talibans are in a war with an enemy never defeated in battle; the Scandinavians (well, Germany defeated Denmark rather easily in WWII and in the end, the French actually learned how to control the Vikings by the force of heavy cavalry).
History acknowledges many bold soldiers; the Romans, the Moors, the troops of Stalin and the US Marines.
But to most people finding themselves standing on a battle ground, none of these opponents are as fearful as a fully grown son of Thule high on strange mushrooms swinging his sword and having his mind set on running you and your home over in a fashion only a tank could compete with.
Today, Scandinavia and especially Sweden produces some of the most advanced weapons the World ever has seen.
But if I was a Taliban, I'd fear the uncompromising spirit and rage of the Northmen themselves even more..
Luckily enough for me, I am one of them blue eyed berserks myself and perhaps, I'll one day decide to have a beer or two where you live.
Just kidding. We Scandinavians of today are indeed true friends of America. There are other nations we, the tenth largest economy on Earth measured by Nominal GDP (if Finland is included), also would like to see more of close cooperation with. Germany is one such nation. Britain too. Greece and Iran of course are not.
Cheers and see you in a hockey rink sometime soon:)!
(For a brief lesson in Viking History, see links below)
That mixing was a two way street. The formerly all-blond folks from Freisland and their cousins in what is now Sweden, picked up some authentic red-heads.
You could do that a lot back in the days when there were far fewer people around to bother you.
That's a rare name ~ Swedish ~ from the Sapma.
www.familysearch.org shows a bunch of 'em coming to America in the mid to late 1800s with a large cohort from Scandinavia ~ escaping intense privation and famines.
14 overseas deployments is unusual for someone so young. He reminds me a lot of the Vassa King.

Thank you for posting this.
It matters.
“Since the Normans were descended from the Norse, I would not say that France ever really controlled them.”
- The Vikings based in Normandy once threateaned to take over all of France. The Vikings more or less controlled all of Northern France.
The rulers of France of that time had to use tons of heavy cavalry to defeat them. In the end, their strategy worked. After these encounters, the Vikings begun building towns and farms and became a part of the emerging French nation.
The whole world changed with that outcome ~ much like another battle in the same region in WWII.
There is a reason why NO OTHER European nation during TWO centuries has wished wished to encounter Sweden in a battle - and furthermore, we all know what happened to the Soviet forces challenging Finland 70 years ago..
No one is invincible. But we come close.
“There are only two kinds of people who know United States Marines- Marines and those who have fought them. Everything else is just a second-hand opinion’’.
Sweden is ‘’invincible’’? Really? So where is your two ocean navy? You got three different air-wings of fixed fighter aircraft?(example The Marine Corp, The Navy, The United States Air Force) How many armored units have you Swedes got? And what about your nuclear capabilty? ICBMS, Tomahawks, Cruise missiles etc.? And how many times have you Swedes gone out and saved the world? Wheres your “Greatest Generation’’?
Big Yawn.
We could sneak up any nation’s coast and completely destroy it.

Furthermore, we Swedes secured Protestantism long before the US even existed.
Maybe, you should pick up a history book before talking back to the most successful country on Earth. Don’t get me wrong, most Scandinavians admire America and wish our nations to cooperate.
Oh please!! Dude, you’re delusional! Okay pal, have it your way. Big Bad Sweden, yeah, look out, here come the Swedes! Christ sake, if we ever felt like it we could launch a nuke or two your way and there wouldn’t be a damn thing you Swedes could do about it except bend over and kiss your asses goodbye. Thanks for the laughs pal.
It only takes a pinch of Norse to make a Norman.
I don’t know if I am a “Viking brother” or not. My family is English origin on both sides and I suspect the name is derived from French so it could be. Never researched it much.
