The Obama administration adamantly denies it, but rumors are circulating in Washington that his Department of Health and Human Services is already collecting Americans private health information, or at least preparing itself to do so.
Rep. Denny Rehberg, the chairman of the House appropriations subcommittee on Labor, Health & Human Services and Education formalized the rumors by asking about them in a letter to HHS Secretary Kathleen Sebelius on Thursday.
Specifically, I have been told that HHS has already procured a contractor to build a database and that this contractor has already taken steps to acquire personal health care data from a large claims database, Rehberg wrote. I would like to know if these reports are, in fact, true. If so, it would represent an egregious violation of the privacy rights that the American public rightfully demands.

But what about all those “Privacy” paperwork thingy’s I have to sign? I thought that meant only my insurance company and other medical professionals could get info on me. Not even a spouse!
Congress, specifically the House of Representatives controls the checkbook. Tell Speak Boehner to stop funding HHS.
We’re in the same boat! For me it was 1981.
LOL!
There are many FR programmers. They could tell you that this project would be enormous in scope. There is no off the shelf product for the government to just start using.
How do people do this? I have a friend who has been unemployed for years while his wife earned a doctorate without working a day to pay for it. They both live like kings.
We ARE doing something wrong.
Good post.
Exactly. Hidden in Porkulus 1 were incentives for every hospital that takes Medicare money to go to an all-electronic medical record. They offer bonuses in the millions for the first few years if you meet certain criteria for "meaningful use" and then start to take away millions from your reimbursement if you don't.
The framework is being put into place now to transfer medical data to central clearing houses. Currently, this is being set up on a state by state basis although several states have joined together in the west to share this information. You can't tell me that this isn't being done without pressure from Washington.
Supposedly you can opt out of having your personal private data "shared" but you have to read those forms they give you on admission very carefully to know this.
Just take a look at Health Information Exchanges to see it starting.
I believe bourbon will cure anything. Haven't found anything yet it won't cure. If it didn't cure it I guess I just didn't give a damn which is almost as good.
My theory isn't proved yet, so testing continues.
I go to the doctor every year for a check up. I am 71 and he hasn’t found anything wrong yet.
The bourbon is pickling and preserving your organs. It’s my theory and I’m sticking to it.

There is nothing there in those forms that says the government local, state or federal cannot get access to your health records. Do not assume that private insurance companies cannot access your data.
As an example just take a look at what the government has done in the name of investigating ‘fraud’. The massive government databases are being populated with your information daily using your SSN and can and have been cross checked.
“In July 2003, the Department of Transportation Office of Inspector General (DOT-OIG) and Social Security Administration Office of Inspector General (SSA-OIG), citing safety and security concerns, initiated a joint investigation to identify pilots misusing Social Security numbers. During the course of the investigation, Social Security records identified individuals who also held FAA medical certificates and who were receiving Social Security (SSA) disability benefits. The DOT-OIG and SSA-OIG launched an 18-month probe termed “Operation Safe Pilot” in coordination with the U.S. Attorney’s Office (USAO) to look into possible fraudulent activity. The investigation zeroed in on 40,000 pilots residing in northern California. The operation discovered approximately 3,220 pilots with current medical certificates who were collecting SSA benefits, including disability benefits. DOT-OIG and SSA-OIG agents identified 48 pilots receiving full disability benefit payments for an array of illnesses that were medically disqualifying for airman medical certification. This resulted in the U.S. Attorney’s Office prosecuting more than 40 cases to date.”
If you didnt know about this you werent paying attention. Click on my link for something I wrote in Aug of this year ( http://www.examiner.com/political-buzz-in-new-york/a-healthy-dose-of-reality) Since that time they have now been instructed to collect race, ethnicity, and of course languages spoken at home. Just more Obamacare that we had to pass before we see whats in it.
This healthcare law gets worse and worse, the more that’s found out about it. Seriously. Thanks for the link.
Tar. Feathers.
0bama promised transparency. He just meant our records, not his.
