Here's to a long life for Occupy Wall Street
Union Leader ^ | 10-13-11 | GEORGE F. WILL

Posted on 10/13/2011 6:28:40 AM PDT by radioone

The Tea Party’s splendid successes, which have altered the nation’s political vocabulary and agenda, have inspired a countermovement — Occupy Wall Street. Conservatives should rejoice and wish for it long life, abundant publicity and sufficient organization to endorse congressional candidates deemed worthy. All Democrats eager for OWS’ imprimatur, step forward.

In scale, OWS’ demonstrations-cum-encampments are to Tea Party events as Pittsburg, Kan., is to Pittsburgh, Pa. So far, probably fewer people have participated in all of them combined than attended just one Tea Party rally, that of Sept. 12, 2009, on the Washington Mall. In comportment, OWS is to the Tea Party as Lady Gaga is to Lord Chesterfield: Blocking the Brooklyn Bridge was not persuasion modeled on Tea Party tactics.

Why not post this under news/activism/editorial for a longer post life? The earth is flat otherwise.

I know many people here hate George Will, but the man can write!

And forgiveness of “all debt on the entire planet period.” Progressivism’s battle cry is: “Mulligan!” It demands the ultimate entitlement — emancipation from the ruinous results of all prior claims of entitlement.

Pretty much all I ever click on to get the news is, on the right side, Latest Articles. Occasionally I’ll hit “latest posts”, but that is if I just want to see what everybody is talking about right now. I’ve been doing that since 1998 when I first discovered this site. I try the others but it’s hard to break old habits.

I must confess I agree with his sentiments. Just as I liked Romney running back in 2008 because the side effect was that Joe Sixpack was going to learn a lot more about what was REALLY going on with Mormonism, this OWS movement has percolated the real challenges of progressivism to the surface like so many zits and blackheads.

For all to see in their infected, oozing plendor.

"The whole world is watching! The whole world is watching!"

Yes, it certainly is.

"The peasants are revolting!"

Yes, they certainly are.

WHERE? do all the protesters charge up their electronic devices—I guess unlocked wi-fi for all is available, but still they need battery life to keep in touch.

This group can't exist without modern day "capitalistic" technology just like Obama and his ever faithful TOTUS.

Roseanne Barr from Roseanne's Nuts is their #OWS poster child. [lol] PIMPING for her new show [?] on ABC, Downwardly Mobile.

Barr wrote a NY Magazine piece:

“[...]I wanted to do a realistic show about a strong mother who was not a victim of Patriarchal Consumerist Bullshit—in other words, the persona I had carefully crafted over eight previous years in dive clubs and biker bars: a fierce working-class Domestic Goddess. It was 1987, and it seemed people were primed and ready to watch a sitcom that didn’t have anything like the rosy glow of middle-class confidence and comfort, and didn’t try to fake it. ABC seemed to agree. They picked up Roseanne in 1988.”--- backseatcuddler

I bet Barr will not be sharing the residuals with #OWL for using them as a promotional platform for her new ABC show. Capitalism and commercialism, a ploy by Barr????

these people in obamaville must be now having problems with fleas, bedbugs are a massive problem in NY City so I bet they have fond their way into their sleeping bags, then there is the rats which plague NY City. Hell those rats are everywhere in NY. So what we have in obamaville is flea, rat, pigeon dropping,, bedbug, lice infested clueless , many just dumb , some paid off from craiglist protesters living in squalor which has a horrible stench who has has caused very unsanitary conditions. YUCK Men in the white suits need to de lice and spray these people before they are allowed into general population and then the park needs chemical cleaning

I can only imagine the contamination and proliferation of parasites such as fleas, ticks, etc. Not to mention the casual disposal of feces etc. Yuck!

All brought to you by our delightful mayor, Mike Bloomberg. What a legacy! But you can rest assured: there are no salt shakers on the tables of NYC restaurants.

I love how the Left is mauling the hand that feeds it! Especially considering how much of the Dem’s money comes from Wall Street.

yea control smoking, salt , food but hey let a few hundred layabouts live on the street, let them ruin an area, let the city look like a human dump for tourists and create a foul stench while bringing unsanitary conditions. Even Boston with a liberal mayor has told the cops to remove their smellies

Sooo complaining about Wall St’s heist of the US Treasury is somehow “counter” to the Tea Party’s priorities?!!!Who knew?!!!

“Constitutional Government” is being equated with the Wall St looting....

It’s been a humiliating experience for this life-long NYer (although my main residence is now NJ). Think of the poor tourists who spend their hard-earned money to come to this city and visit Ground Zero and the new park dedicated to its victims! Seriously, I am at the point of tears.

Bloomberg is a Bostonian. I’ve always believed that that was why he never “got” this city. But then the voters put him in office again and again so how can I really continue to believe that?

I wouldn't mind seeing a longer life for the OWS movement ... at least into January or February.

We'll see how 'revolutionary' these punk kids are when faced with frostbite!

I'd love to go down there with a sign "demand boycott of all energy not generated from solar or wind sources"
