I think that I may have stumbled onto a very large problem. I am working with a guy that says that he was a Marine and I am 99% sure that he isn't. He has got a really great story going and he has fooled a lot of people. I need a place to go to so that I can prove that he isn't a marine.
I can already proove several of his other stories are fabrications but this is the key. I have read online that is a rather big problem, especially for the Corps and the Seals. Can anyone tell me where to go to find out if this guy ever served?
Thanks for your help.
Ask him if his parents were married. If they were then he’s not a marine.
Ask him where the “Rock” is. Where is 29 Palms? And ask him what Chesty said when surrounded by the enemy? Ask him what a “Butter Bar” is? Who is nicknamed “Top”? When is the Marine Corps birthday? Ask him what you have to do to qualify to be a Former Marine versus and Ex Marine (Only answer is to NOT have an airport named after you in PA, but what the heck)?
We only recited that once in boot, and that was 30 years ago in my case. Might not be the best test.
Have another (known authentic) Marine chat with him. Especially a contemporary of his. In less than a minute authenticity will be verified or a phony exposed.
Oh heck, ask him what an Irish Pennant is? If he don’t know that, he don’t know the Corps...
Unless he’s using it to some material advantage, it’s probably better left alone. Even then... it’s important to be really, really sure. If he really is a former Marine it would be awful to accuse him of otherwise.
Actually I was thinking... did he put on his employment application that he was a Marine? If so, then he falsified a document in order to obtain employment. That may be an interesting angle on this for you.
or his 12th GO.
mine was quite creative. If he has to think... He is BULLSHIT !!!
Hah! Yeah, there are still a lot of wannabe’s out there.

Shoot...what was it - To quit my post only when properly relieved???
lol
I got it...Ask him what a “Big Chicken Dinner” is...never mind...he may know that one, which lead him to claim he was a Marine.
A fake Marine was just prosecuted here under it. He was so ballsy, he spoke at a Veteran’s ceremony last yearl before he got caught. Yes, in front of tons of people in full uniform.
Dude... the 12th... 12th.
It started out as “recruit don’t know sir” and evolved from there.
The best way to approach this is to talk to the Marine Corps.
The United States Marine Corps Division of Public Affairs.

“You get help from your nearest public affairs shop - listed below in the public affairs directory.”
I can still tell you how to talk your way on to Kadena AFB on Oki, even in uniform!!!! That should make up for any lack of memory...
The answer, incidentally, is "however slight". You hadda be there.
I knew the Navy would get here eventually.
Stop it...I already hid my head in shame for forgetting 11 v 12...I blame it on age and pre-debate adult beverages.
That’s the best answer yet.
