"If he would choose to endorse me, that would be huge..."
Trump himself didn't comment on specifics following the meeting, but said he was flattered that candidates where reaching out to him. The lacquer-haired mogul added he was 'undecided' on any endorsement... _______________________________________________________________________
Republican Herman Cain on Monday became the latest presidential candidate to meet with Donald Trump - and Cain said later that the real estate mogul was receptive to his pitch.
"He likes my 9-9-9 plan," Cain said after the meeting, referring to his proposal to eliminate the current tax system and replace it with a 9 percent personal income tax, a 9 percent corporate income tax and a 9 percent national sales tax. The former Godfather's Pizza executive said he talked with Trump about how his plan will improve relations with China and other countries. "As you know, (Trump) has been very, very critical about how China is taking advantage of the United States because of some the cost of their goods. 9-9-9 basically levels that playing field," he said. ________________________________________________________________________________
Like most of Cain's financial/business plans, '9-9-9' is well thought ought and goal-oriented. Reflecting the man's background, his proposals are specific and realistic in assumptions, expectations, and goals.
Yet if I've got an issue with it, it's the establishment of a national sales tax
(yikes!).
Besides the affect on America's already-pitiful level of demand, just imagine what the Dems will do with that if they ever get their grubby little paws on the purse strings again. The VAT on major purchases In Europe peaks around 22%... small wonder the heinous Obama regime are so damn jealous of them and their socialist cash-sucking machines they call 'government'...

Yet if I've got an issue with it, it's the establishment of a national sales taxThis could be dangerous unless it's coupled with a repeal of the 16th amendment. BUT, I give Cain a lot of respect for approaching the issue. Even on the conservative side all they seem to want to do is tinker with the current code and that really needs to go.

Yeah, that’s my take away too... Cain gets points for even approaching it, no doubt

Trump gave Cain a “power lunch” but he took Sarah Palin out for pizza?

Candidates, stop the pilgrimages to Trump. As you seek his endorsement, know this... you`re BUYING it... and at what price?
He`s all about “the deal,” and will want his payback in time.

I am opposed to the 9% sales tax. In my county we currently have a 7% sales tax so if Cain’s plan is implemented I will be paying 16% tax on every single purchase. That will diminish my purchasing power and discretionary purchases will be out the window.
AND once in place it will NEVER go away. In fact, it will probably increase over time.
NO, NO, NO to a national sales tax.

Please, everyone. Get a copy of the Fair Tax books and read them. All of the other taxes go away, alng with the 16th ammendment and the IRS as wel know it today! You might even be very surprised what other little gems are also in there.
READ THEM! Then come back with your arguements.

The plan is to eliminate the income tax. So the % you pay would go down.
The politicians will abuse ANY tax system we have. The problem is the politicians in office for life, not necessarily the tax system.

Very dangerous and stupid plan. End result will be that the DEMs, plus some future centrist bi-partisan commission will say, "We like the national sales tax idea, but not the other stuff." They'll say "even some conservatives back a national sales tax". I wish Cain would go away and take his idiotic tax plan with him.
"But, but, but" you say. It's only if you reduce the income tax. It's an intermediate step. Yeah, and all that will matter when the nat'l sales tax idea is co-opted by the left? Not likely. SHUT UP HERMAN!!

You really think the current tax system is best for America? I want a 2 page tax code, not a million pages that no one understands accompanied by a 1,000,000 IRS agents. I can’t believe everyone is for the status quo, based on something that might happen in the future. The country is currently falling off of a cliff with the current system and we are supporting a 1,000,000 IRS agents and their pensions to maintain a system no one on this planet understands.

Who REALLY thinks the democrats will not keep BOTH taxes- federal income AND a national sales tax?
All that lovely taxpayer money, so many new roads and bridges to build....
To buy Herman’s snake oil, you have to trust the democrats.
uhhh....

It's not either/or. We don't have to choose between Cain's dopey 9-9-9 or the status quo. I am all for reforming the tax code. But not with a national sales tax.
Cain is doing way more harm than good with his gimmicky platform. All he's doing is putting the idea of national sales tax out there. At least when he was supporting the "fair tax" nonsense, he was for a plan that eliminated the income tax first. Now he's advocating both. Dangerous nonsense.

I agree. Not sure what the answer is, but we need to make it simple enough to do away with all the loopholes and deductions.
To: Reaganite Republican
I like Michele’s plan. We all keep 100% of what we make.
To: mazda77
If Cain is proposing a FAIR TAX then I’m all for it. But the fair tax includes repeal of the 16th amendment and a supermajority of both houses of congress to up the rate.
