Israel Radio has just reported that Muammar Gadhafi has fled and the city of Tripoli has fallen. More to follow.
What happens next remains to be seen.
UPDATE 11:54 PM
Here's a report and video from Sky News which has a reporter embedded with the rebels:
Sky's special correspondent Alex Crawford, accompanying the rebels, said the opposition fighters were greeted with scenes of jubilation as they made their way through the outskirts of the capital.
As they entered the city, their cars gridlocked the roads, she said, and hundreds of people came out onto the streets to greet them.
The rebels responded with celebratory gunfire, she said.
"We are now just a very short distance from the centre, with more and more people coming onto the streets.
"They (the rebels) had been expecting much more resistance but there has been very little."

I haven't decided if this is bad news or not... have to wait and see what happens to the country if/when he does lose power. It's hard enough trying to promote a decent democracy in a country even when we have troops on the ground, much less hoping something good will result all on its own in a power vacuum.
when the Rebels do take over ,that’s when the real killing starts
Power is more concerned with invading Israel to protect the palestinians from genocide.
Media already looking for a bump for Obama.
France24 is reporting that two of Gaddafi’s sons have been captured.
The roads are strewn with discarded uniforms of Gaddafi’s soldiers.
Gadaffi’s chick militia will go the way of the Robert Palmer dancers...
Power is more concerned with invading Israel to protect the palestinians from genocide.
Was hoping for a “Mussolini moment.” Not to be I guess...
Since when is Gaddafi a good guy? Niteclub bombings? Lockerbie? Do people really think the average Libyan supports this terrorist thug?
“Media already looking for a bump for Obama.”
He’ll be coming back from vacation in triumph!
No kidding. I guess the enemy of an enemy really is some people’s friends...
There are no “good guys” in that part of the world. Gaddafi is secular and the enemy of the Islamists, who are the greater threat. Gaddafi himself can burn in hell.. but again, he was a counterbalance to the Islamist threat, just as Mubarak was in Egypt.
We certainly seem to be doing a real fine job of arming the worst possible people in the mideast.
He never was good, but he became an ally several years ago, just like Saddam was an ally before the first gulf war. However the rebels are worse,
What the heck? Gadhafi was mowing down protestors. I am glad the rebels have the country back. It is up to them now, to not allow the whackos to rule their new government.
SkyNews banner indicates one of Gaddafi’s sons has been captured.
Downing Street: “The end is near” for Gaddafi.
Was he invited to Martha’s Vinyard also? lol
“As predicted by Obama what, 6 months ago?”
Ahem. Days, not weeks. and certainly not months :)
