As America bids farewell to the space shuttle era on Thursday, likely presidential candidate Rick Perry appears none too pleased with the Obama administration, accusing the president of leaving American astronauts with no alternative but to hitchhike into space.
In a sharply worded statement issued by the governor of Texas -- the state is home to the Johnson Space Center -- Perry charges that the Obama Administration continues to lead federal agencies and programs astray, this time forcing NASA away from its original purpose of space exploration, and ignoring its groundbreaking past and enormous future potential.

Wait a second. The TTC was a bad idea because it was too overreaching because of it's size, but alternate routes to Interstate 35 is not a bad idea. That route from Dallas to Austin and San Antonio is ridiculous. It's like rush hour for 3 or 4 hours straight. The Spanish company Cintra that would have received the bid actually owns Zachry Construction which built part of the expansion of 75 and 30 in Dallas along with Granite Construction and Brown and Root(owned by Haliburton). Zachry has built all kinds of projects all over Texas and is headquartered in Houston I think. I don't know when they became part of Cintra.
Guardasil is the only other issue and there was an opt out clause.

What groundbreaking advances have resulted from the shuttle program in the past tewnty years? Hubble. No Shuttle and Hubble would have been nearly blind, and would have long ago been shut down.

Im pretty sure the end of the shuttle program has been planned since 2005 (possibly even earlier). Yes but it was planned for when the follow on vehicle would be coming on line. That got delayed, in part by funding constraints during the 2006-2010 Congresses, and then canceled by "O".

I have no favorite in this and I agree weak field. However, I do believe that another Texan has little chance of becoming president in the next 20 years. That said the independents may go for AB0 - anyone but Obama.

Let’s all vote for Mitt? It looks to me like it will be either Mitt or Perry.

Amen to that!!!

Such BS you spew. Where on Earth does it say in the Constitution that we need a space program? You big government lovers piss me off. We are trying to CUT the government and you are trying to stop the cutting......UGH!!!! Perhaps Canada would accept you...I hope.
To: Cincinatus' Wife
As hard as I tried to find the right to a space program in the Constitution, I cannot find it anywhere.....why does this have to be the governments responsibility? I say privatize it and be done. Are you one of those pesky big government types?

Rodger that....they are all “wedges” simplest tools known to man....only good for one issue.....amazingly enough there are not that many Perry “Bashers” on FR, but much like the gay community in America, although small in number, very loud and persistent in their posts. And of course never let the truth get in their way in expressing their opinions!

Come on, naps.
Think of it as a SPACE NAVY. OK?

.....Are you one of those pesky big government types? I'm a strong America, leading the way type.
Government has its jobs and one is to do projects too expensive for private companies and then when it's shown the market, let them loose!!
I'm a don't give it to some other country to grasp and control.
I'm a believer that America IS special and that OUR form of government needs to be leading the way to space and reaping the rewards so we stay strong and our children benefit and the world benefits.

To: napscoordinator
No, not speciafically, but it does speak about providing for the defense of our country and it’s certainly fits that space exploration could easily fit into that definition in the coming years...
To: Cincinatus' Wife; Diogenesis
True. good point. I forgot that it can be wrapped up in the defense part of the government.

Moving on up to the big house it seems......... Gonna get out from under that $10,000 a month governors rent house he's occupying right now.
Rep. John Culberson, R-Houston, predicted that Perrys presidential exploration would end up with a four-year lease on 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue.

Sorry guys, but I'll continue to post all the facts, since the Perry Cheer-Leading section seems to be adverse to pointing out the factual flaws in Perry's conservatism.

Must suck that all you are reduced to is casting slurs at a group of people, that for the most part, are simply posting facts about your preferred candidate.
Try sticking to proving the facts about Perry's checkered history, you might convince more people.

If the thread was about Perry have at it. This thread WAS NOT about Perry. It was about the space program. At least it was till you tried to highjack it.
