A passenger on a United Airlines flight had to be tied up and gagged and the flight diverted after he refused to come out of the bathroom and then turned violent when confronted by staff.
The United Airlines flight 944 to Frankfurt, Germany, from Chicago was diverted to Cleveland on Friday night after the flight attendant found that the large man had been in the bathroom for almost 30 minutes and refused to come out.
When he eventually did he started screaming at the flight attendants and put one in a headlock before wrestling him to the ground.
That is when some of the passengers on board were asked to help.
Joe Shulfer, of Woodstock, told Newsradio 780: 'The flight attendant just ran up to me and literally grabbed me by the shirt and said, "You need to come with me now".'
By then three men were already wrestling with him and they managed to handcuff him and tie up his feet. Then he started spitting and swearing.

Stomped to death instead of restrained would be appropriate.

Should I need to lift my current flying boycott, I want you seated next to me.

Ohio is a hotbed of Amish Amishness.
I thought everyone knew that.
I imagine the flight attendants now scan the plane for who they would be first to call on for help in a situation like this. Probably keep a little seat list in their pocket of their top 10 potential “helpers” if needed.
Right, 'cuz he may have been innocently petting his unicorn in there.

If you’re going to be randomly denigrating food additives, at least learn how to spell them correctly.
ONE: I was on the flight, right next to where this all occurred. Let me clarify: my HUSBAND was the one who had to put that man into a headlock & wrestle him to the ground after he pushed the flight attendant. at NO TIME did the man put anyone in a headlock. He was in the bathroom 3 times & had to be forcibly removed AS WE WERE TAKING OFF. He was aggressive, suspicious & verbally/physically abusive. TWO: Ron Anfuso NEVER participated in any way in the detainment of the man. He was in the back of the plane in his seat, until the FBI came on board. He never once left his seat. The 4 other men directly involved with my husband (called a “hero” by flight crew, FBI & passengers) all ate dinner together in Cleveland to “decompress” from the stress & anxiety of this incident. Three: there were never “wires from the ceiling”, the bathroom mirror opened completely during takeoff... after the man left. He had no carry on, shorts & flipflops going to Germany. I have this on video from my seat..

Yuck!
Incidents like this make me glad I don’t fly anymore. Who knows what this crazy was trying to do.
Cheers to the passengers, they may have saved their own lives.
He was probably just a vampire who is afraid of mirrors.
Maybe the ACLU can take up his case.
Well, I'm glad we got THAT clarified......LOL!
This is odd—why was this story moved to “Bloggers & Personal” when I posted it in “News”? It is not from a blog and not unsourced . . .
It’s Xanthan Gum. It’s in lots of stuff.
I see you are hijacking, no pun intended, another thread to talk about bodily functions.
The guy was not having a bout of intestinal distress, he was a terrorist or terrorist wannabe.
Xanthan gum rage.......I don’t even know what to say about that.
But the Xanthan Gum threat is very real. I expect to see diagnosticians through out the nation coming up with millions of victims now.
It's the NEW "vaccination causes something" opportunity.
By now we probably have figured out what the kid was doing ~ but don't these guys have a handbook telling them that disassembling the light in the airplane toilet allows them to short circuit the whole plane?
It's not true of course.
My spell checker didn’t pick that up. Probably because it’s an abbreviation in the fist place ~ Xanthomonas campestris is the bacteria they use!
Or conversely, a cork.
Sounds like there were at least 3 guys who think like you.
