Entry of UNITED STATES CITIZENS back into their NATIVE COUNTRY is handled by CUSTOMS AND IMMIGRATION.
This is the ONLY US agency that is going to stop someone entering the country and make the claim that they aren’t a citizen.
If you should accidentally flush your US passport down the toilet on the flight from Mexico, or drop it just before entering the airplane that brings you back, believe me, you are GOING to have an “immigration file” opened on YOU, in spite of the fact that you are (presumably) a child born on US soil of two US parents.
Does that make you “naturalized?” Of course not.
But I’ve answered this more than once already.

I went to numerous foreign countries when I was in the Navy. Go directly to the pier and pass "IMMIGRATION". (you were not concise and that's not my fault)
I even went to Mexico many times and came back with nothing more than my DL and Mil. ID. Unless, that is, you consider a walk-through checkpoint at the border "IMMIGRATION".

Why should I believe you? Are you an immigration lawyer or are you speaking from personal experience?
Besides, I have other forms of identification and I would simply go to the embassy, as any Citizen traveling abroad should know, and jump through the necessary hoops to get back home.

ALL statutory citizens are born with a tie to another nation by birthplace and/or blood, but NEVER is that the case with natural born citizens who have only American ties.
