Abuse of food stamps

I thought the people who accept Food Stamps were supposed to prevent this kind of stuff from happening. After all, who buys six cases of Mountain Dew to wash down lobster and porterhouse steaks?

There is an actual storefront in Knoxville (not legal of course) that when you take in your Food Stamp card you can exchange it for drugs.

If you issue charge cards for "food stamps", this is the result.

You could crank the eligible commodities available down to the basics: flour, milk powder, rice, salt, sugar, fresh fruits and vegetables, fresh and frozen meats, basic canned goods. That would be discriminatory to those living in "food deserts".

...and crooks would still figure a way to scam the unconstitutional generosity of your government.

They all should eat what you want them to eat.

30 years ago in college a fellow classmate had food stamps and would eat peanuts and burritos during the week. On weekends he’d eat T-bones.

It’s my understanding that this guy was arrested for Food Stamp fraud. He bought the expensive food on the card, then sold it half-price for cash.

I used to watch guys in Range Rover 4.0 HSEs pull up to the SW Washington DC fish market to buy raw oysters on the half-shell with food-stamp WIC cards.

We reap what we sow.

How unfair, making poor people go to the store and get their food. It is obvious that the, ‘food stamp services department of food stamps and public assistance,’ should deliver and allow food stamps to be used at Red Lobster.

Some people mix Mountain Dew w/ Southern Comfort to make American Champagne.

As the singer celine deion screeched at katrina time “let them touch it” (referring to those stealing big screen plasma TV’s). Can we be so uncaring, so callous and so insensitive? Many of the “losers in life’s lottery” (to paraphrase some obscure more sensitive DIMocRAT) have never caressed a cold water lobster. Who are we to deny them?????

This had been posted before, and I thought that one FReeper's take on it was interesting.

Roughly, he (or she) said "Who cares? If they get a $400 monthly allowance, and decide to blow it all on one meal, they'll just starve for the rest of the month."

I'll grant that's likely not the case....they're getting more money from *somewhere*. But I thought that the attitude, in theory at least, was correct.

I wonder if EBT card purchases are auditable? For instance, in this particular case, if a user blows their whole allotment on one meal, that would be a red flag, to me at least, that they have other sources of income and could get disqualified for future compensation.

Not that the government cares one bit of course. 'Tisn't their money they're wasting.

If you mean EBT cards, they are accepted here in mexifornia from Carl’s Jr to Rite Aid. Sickening, isn’t it?

Last thread about this very subject I got accused of thinking that “being poor was a crime” because I though that food stamps should only be able to buy pre-packaged boxes of the basic foodstuffs that are a step below cafeteria food like generic and canned food.

What they also need is random drug testing for any and all “gubermint benefits”. You fail the drug test you get you “bennies” pulled so fast that you think you are living in the Great Depression Era and have to rely on charities.

Being Poor is not a crime, My parents grew up poor, but they had pride and gumption, take a look at the “American poor” these days and most live better than the struggling lower middle class who don’t take anything from the government. Government assistance shouldn’t be the “lottery” is should be a something that only provides the bare necessities of life for those who are grateful to receive them.

Red Flags, Audit. Surely you jest. This is the same government that paid out 72 million dollars in social security checks to dead people. AUDIT HAHAHAHAHAHAHA
