Yesterday, Reuters reported that in Action Comics #900, Superman is mulling over renouncing his American citizenship and becoming a citizen of the world. Last year, Archie Comics announced that there would be an openly gay character hanging out in Riverdale. Last season, the NFL had players wearing pink gloves and cleats to bring awareness to breast cancer.
I hate to sound all unpoliticalcorrectthink, but I am sick and damn tired of being preached to when all I want to do is enjoy myself.
I know, I know, I'm selfish, I'm heartless, blah, blah, blah, yadda, yadda, yadda. Yes, I know there are problems in this world. Got it. But does the world's problems have to be advertised in every medium ? Why can't I read a comic book without being preached to about social justice or the flaws of American foreign policy ? Why can't my kid read an Archie comic book without being preached to about equality for homosexuals ? Why can't I watch the Miami Dolphins embarrass themselves without being reminded of the horrors of breast cancer ?
Here's a news flash for DC Comics, Archie Comics, and the NFL: (And this goes double for the bourgeois socialists in Hollywood) We The People want to be entertained. We don't want or need to be preached to every waking moment. If the entertainment industry would stop being so self-righteous for a second, it would realize that We The People are not idiots. We know the world sucks and sometimes we need an escape from it.
God help us all.
Ping!
Supercomrade is on the way.
What next? Bizzaro gets elected as President?
Oh, wait a minute...
Yeah...Bizarro Reagan. Instead of the individual, we have the collective. Instead of free market capitalism, we have socialism. Instead of small government, we have bloated bureaucracy.
*Sigh*
Well he was a Reporter now wasn’t he? Anyway the media are already citizens of the world and so is Obama. Comrade Kent?
I give in, I’m a nerd, too. I forgot all about that graphic novel...
PS— Say hi to Captain Marvel for me....
Da.
Neal Boortz's replacement today pointed out that Superman got honorary citizenship from every country in the United Nations in Superman, issue C-31, November 1974.
So I guess that means he's a citizen of every country except for the US and Switzerland (and a few new ones which joined the UN after 1974).
*Sigh* indeed!
While he is at it (changing his citizenship) he should also change his name to Stupidman.
Ultimate in nerdom question: Was it the Earth 1 or Earth 2 Superman ?
Not a bad rant for a new arrival.
+1
:)
Totally agree!
I have commented on other threads how these days, it seems like everybodys got a gimmick.
Something. Something to sell you. Something to convince you. Some group/person that’s got a major problem and needs your help, a real tear-jerker...
Plastic, plastic, plastic. Agendas and victims everywhere. You can’t get away from them, they will chase you down and haunt your very soul.
Its everywhere.
I listen to a conservative Christian radio station off and on all day and two days ago, there was a message about the cross-dresser/trans-gender/*whatever* who got beat up in McDonalds.
Not once but *many* times, the Christian preacher referred to the beaten up male creature as she, “her” and woman.
I was mortified.
I do not care how much butchery and surgery is performed on a body-dysmorphic individual, until they successfully change every single chromosome in their body to the opposite one, theyre *still* the man or woman they were born as, originally.
To hear this PC sermon was heart breaking.
I know I already put my 2 cents in, but this topic really hits home with me. Another thing I can’t stand is all these businesses that advertise that they are “green” and the endless sponsoring of various “charitable” events, bike rides for various cancers, mailing in seals from yogurt etc. It never stops. It makes the whole world seem like one big disaster that can only be saved by me spending money on their product. It has the opposite effect on me.
I stopped watching regular, non-news TV altogether.(Unless it’s the NFL, which is becoming unbearable in own right.)I know this sounds crazy as hell, but to me, it’s becoming almost like liberal mind control.
