Faced with critics, like most recently Donald Trump, who are calling for the White House to release President Obama’s birth certificate, the White House declared today that this is a “settled issue” and lingering questions are just a “distraction.”

“We have a lot of problems confronting us,” White House press secretary Jay Carney said when asked about the “birther” claims at today’s briefing, “it’s an unfortunate distraction from the issues that I think most Americans care about.

The White House is dubbing this a “settled issue.”

“The birth certificate that the campaign put up online has been available for everyone to see around the globe,” Carney said....

"Anybody who was born in Hawaii who asks for their birth certificate gets the same thing"

So apparently do others who were not born in Hawaii in the era also get a scrap of paper out of the archives.

If this were any Republican, there'd already be congressional hearings, an independent counsel, mass demonstrations, civil unrest, broadsides from Hollywood celebrities and academia, full page ads in the New York Times and references to the issue in every news or gossip article, comedy sketch, cable and network show and Broadway play.

A caught a little of the glen beck replay on my way home tonight. He is outright desperate to discredit the eligibility issue, to point that he is making up lies about it. He claimed the only way you could doubt that obumber was born in HI is if you believed that they were conspiring to make him president before he was even born. Hay asshole, how about his mother just wanted to ensure he had access to American citizenship because she could not be sure she could transfer citizenship to him? Never liked glen beck, but now he has zero credibility to boot.

re: White House Calls Birther Claims a “Distraction”

Even the headline reveals the MSM spin. The ‘birthers’ don't ‘claim’ anything. He's the one who ‘claims’, the birthers say “prove it!”

Come on! Stop with the distraction. Prove you weren’t born where your grandmother attested to, that being in Kenya which would make you a violator of the Constitution.

Stop with the name calling. Stop with the stone-walling and show the piece of paper we all have in our bureau drawer, namely our birth certificate. You know, the one with our footprints on, and with the attending doctor’s name on. Stop being a joke and show your papers. This country needs a serious leader, not a sophmoric child who is playing the ‘I don’t have to tell you’ game. If you have it, show it. Otherwise, get out of the way and let somebody clean up the mess you have made. Produce documentation that you are legally elligible to that office and I, and many others will back you until you go another way. Don’t and the resistance will grow and we will defeat you. There are two people out there who will displace you and take your legacy, Ryan and Santorum. Both are capable of taking it from you.

"...it’s an unfortunate distraction..."

Yeah, the President can't dare to be disturbed from his golf game or globe-trotting around doing political fundraisers. Where there is smoke, there is fire, and this "distraction" is slowly turning into an inferno for the White House.

Very bizarre because I think they also said Obama could use a FOIA request to let people see the original.

I doubt Obama was born elsewhere but shouldn’t the principle be the darn President should come clean and let his records be examined? That should include medical and education records.

O’Reilly is the same way, but I attribute that to his brown-nosing of the president. Anything to get an interview. He doesn’t want to get into the birther issue for fear he won’t have access anymore. So much for no spin and looking out for you.

Does anyone know how to add a screen shot from my computer (file) to a thread on FR?

I have read the HTML sandbox, but I still have no clue and the way the MSM/Google, etc. are scrubbing sites, I have taken screen shots and would like to add them.

Thanks

I still maintain that by spending all this time and money fighting the matter, he must have something to hide. Otherwise, we would have a real birth certificate and the other records no one seems to be able to find.

The man has lied about everything; seems plausible he probably also lied about the circumstances of his birth.

To me, this outrageous statement from the White House is a very good reason why states need to pass a presidential eligibility law to cover the 2012, 2016, 2020, 2024, etc. presidential elections.

We don't want to be distracted ever again by a presidential candidate's long form birth certificate controversy during the upcoming presidential election in 2012 elections and applying to all future presidential elections.

Let's make sure that we never again have an Obama-type birth certificate controversy that will turn into a "distraction" during future presidential campaigns by finally passing presidential eligibliity state laws as soon as possible.
