>> “Of course, natural has always meant that a perosn is natural born if they need not take any additional actions other than their birth to eb a citizen.” <<

.
No, that is absolutely false.

The law rarely defines the terms contained in its verbage because the definition in common usage at the time of passage of the law is always the required definition.

For “natural born citizen,” the definition in use at the time of the writing of the constitution was a person born in the country of two citizen parents. This fact was upheld by the court soon after the ratification.

Founder David Ramsey wrote on this specific subject in 1789:
http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-bloggers/2485624/posts

I can’t imagine why anyone would want the definition to be any different than he stated.

Look below for what is written in the court decision:

http://www.thepostemail.com/2009/10/18/4-supreme-court-cases-define-natural-born-citizen/

The Venus, 12 U.S. 8 Cranch 253 253 (1814)
The first was decided in A.D. 1814, at the beginning of the republic, by men who were intimately associated with the American Revolution. In that year the following men sat on the Supreme Court:

Bushrod Washington, (b. June 5, 1762 — d. Nov. 26, 1829), served Feb. 4, 1799 til Nov. 26, 1829.

John Marshall (b. Sept. 24, 1755 — d. July 6, 1835), served Feb. 4, 1891 til July 6, 1835.

William Johnson (b. Dec. 27, 1771 — d. Aug. 4, 1834), served May 7, 1804, til Aug. 4, 1834.

Henry Brockholst Livingston (b. Nov. 25, 1757 — d. Mar. 18, 1823), served Jan. 20, 1807 til March 18, 1823

Thomas Todd (b. Jan. 23, 1765 — d. Feb. 7, 1826), served May 4, 1807 til Feb. 7, 1826.

Gabriel Duvall (b. Dec. 6, 1752 — d. Mar. 6, 1844), served Nov. 23, 1811 til Jany 14, 1835.

Joseph Story (b. Sept. 18, 1779 — d. Sept. 10, 1845), served Feb. 3, 1812 til Sept. 10, 1845

Nearly all these men either participated in the American Revolution, or their fathers did. Joseph Story’s father took part in the original Boston Tea Party. Thomas Todd served 6 months in the army against the British; and participated in 5 Constitutional Conventions from 1784-1792. During the Revolutionary War, Henry Brockholst Livingston was a Lieutenant Colonel in the New York Line and an aide-de-camp to General Benedict Arnold, before the latter’s defection to the British. William Johnson’s father, mother, and elder brother were revolutionaries, who served as statesman, rebel, or nurse/assistant to the line troops, respectively. John Marshall was First Lieutenant of the Culpeper Minutement of Virginia, and then Lieutenant in the Eleventh Virginian Continental Regiment, and a personal friend of General George Washington; and debated for ratification of the U.S. Constitution by the Virginian General Assembly. Bushrod Washington was George Washington’s nephew and heir.

Being witnesses and heirs of the Revolution, they understood what the Framers of the Constitution had intended.

The Venus case regarded the question whether the cargo of a merchantman, named the Venus, belonging to an American citizen, and being shipped from British territory to America during the War of 1812, could be seized and taken as a prize by an American privateer. But what the case said about citizenship, is what matters here.

WHAT THE VENUS CASE SAYS ON CITIZENSHIP

In the Venus Case, Justice Livingston, who wrote the unanimous decision, quoted the entire §212nd paragraph from the French edition, using his own English, on p. 12 of the ruling:

Vattel, who, though not very full to this point, is more explicit and more satisfactory on it than any other whose work has fallen into my hands, says:

“The citizens are the members of the civil society; bound to this society by certain duties, and subject to its authority, they equally participate in its advantages. The natives or indigenes are those born in the country of parents who are citizens. Society not being able to subsist and to perpetuate itself but by the children of the citizens, those children naturally follow the condition of their fathers, and succeed to all their rights.

“The inhabitants, as distinguished from citizens, are strangers who are permitted to settle and stay in the country. Bound by their residence to the society, they are subject to the laws of the state while they reside there, and they are obliged to defend it…

I was born in Germany. I am a naturalized U.S. citizen and served in the U.S. armed forces.

I recently went back to Germany to acquire dual citizenship status. It has been a two year process, but now I am also a German citizen.

However, I had to prove my father was born in Germany to get my German citizenship even though I was born there.

I may not be able to run against Obama, but look out Merkel.

The nice thing about having dual citizenship is that I can jump from the pan into the fire and vice versa.

We don’t really know who his father is. That’s why the birth certificate is a necessary first step. If his father is Obama Sr, you are right. He is not a natural born citizen. If his father is Frank Marshall Davis, he would be a natural born citizen and a total fraud.

Well, then, you not asking to see Obama’s birth certificate, you are also asking to see his mother’s and father’s and grandparents, too. I mean, if being born here to a US citizen mother isn’t natural enough, even though the law says it is, and you demand that a person must be born to US citizens, then I guss we’ll just have to go back as far as necessary. In fact, no one whose father cannot be established cannot be President, none of those single parent kids have a chance unless their father was put on the birth ccertificate and he’s a citizen. In fact, the mother could be lying so we had better ensure a DNA test to see who the father is!

Sorry, but being natural born isn’t a concept to be left ot conspiracy theorists and stupid people. Natural means natural and there isn’t a second definition.

I am with you FRiend! He definitely has my vote over the likes of Romney, Huckabee, and Gingrich every day of the week. As of right now, Palin is my first choice followed by Trump.

It doesn’t matter if Obama Sr is not his father. Pre DNA the laws were such that if you were married and had a child, the legal father was your husband, regardless of whomever you were fulling around with. IF (big IF) the long form birth certificate ever surfaces showing Obama Sr as the father, he is the legal father. Even now, ask Kirk Kerkorian, DNA proved the daughter he had by that tennis player gal he was married to for one month, was not his child, but belonged to that Bing fellow, but Kerkorian is paying child support every month anyway.

The Dept. of State has issued NEW rules for U.S. passports, including requiring a birth certificate, to wit:

Updated March 23, 2011

New U.S. Birth Certificate Requirement

Beginning April 1, 2011, the U.S. Department of State will require the full names of the applicant’s parent(s) to be listed on all certified birth certificates to be considered as primary evidence of U.S. citizenship for all passport applicants, regardless of age. Certified birth certificates missing this information will not be acceptable as evidence of citizenship. This will not affect applications already in-process that have been submitted or accepted before the effective date.

[snip]

In addition to this requirement, certified copies of birth certificates must also include the following information to be considered acceptable primary evidence of U.S. citizenship:

Full name of the applicant

Date of birth

Place of birth

Raised, embossed, impressed or multicolored seal of issuing authority

Registrar’s signature

The date the certificate was filed with the registrar’s office (must be within one year)

Can Obama obtain a passport now? Just asking.
