The Root of Terrorism
Beyond the Cusp ^ | March 24, 2011 | B. Saunders

We often hear, most often from those on the left, that in order to prevent terrorism we must address the root causes. When asked the obvious question, what are the root causes of terrorism, what drives people to become suicide bombing murderers or others to slice the throats of an entire family in their sleep, including even the youngest of children, they claim it is a complex issue with many and varied reasons driving terrorism. They point to poverty, lack of available employment, poor living conditions, lack of education, feelings of persecution, or any of a myriad of pet causes used to explain higher crime rates in some areas of their countries. Unfortunately for all their social woes drive terrorism claims, research has shown that a significant number of those conducting acts of terror, including suicidal acts of terror, are well educated, often with bachelor’s degrees or even higher education, come from well-to-do families, Osama bin Laden is a fine example, and do not fit any of the oft blamed social ills for terrorism. So, what could be behind terrorism?

Actually, it is not really all that complicated. The reason behind the majority of terrorism comes down to the most obvious reason, pure hatred. It is not due to anything more complicated than a level of hatred that drives groups and individuals to make the eradication of the objects of their hate their driving reason for living, or dying. This form of hatred can be driven by their society, through indoctrination, incitement, their religion, politics, or other peer and societal pressures. Some are forced into committing an act of terror by threat of honor or other societal form of condemnation if they should choose to refuse. Some who commit acts of terror claiming to be acting out of righteous indignation over society ignoring their political cause, such as the eco-terrorists. Even that is explained by hatred, as politically driven terrorists have such strong emotional ties to their cause that they despise bordering on simple pure hatred of those they see as being destructive to their lives, society, or even the planet by opposing their cause.

Once we can agree that terrorism is driven by strong emotional hatred in some form and not by social ills, poverty, ignorance, or other societal forces, we can then honestly fight terror in a productive manner instead of continuing to make excuses and dithering. There is absolutely no fathomable way to fight terrorism without understanding that it is not driven by anything we did or did not do, nor by any insult intended or accidental, and is only reliant on the delusional and false depictions of our society, intentions, or crimes against their societies, religions, or way of life by our enemies, the ones who execute terror sending others, never risking their lives. These terror instigators and organizers often live lavish lives while sending brainwashed, young, and impressionable people to commit terror, often in suicidal attacks. Should those instigating their people to commit terror by implementing incitement using all means at their disposal also be political leaders, they will often make benign statements in English while constantly saying the complete opposite to their public to incite hatred that enables the raising of people willing to commit terror attacks. It is imperative that we disconnect ourselves from notions often referred to as “political correctness” where all religions, societies, and peoples are considered to have the same desires, dictates, outlooks, morals, and values. Political correctness is actually blinders which prevent the individual from discerning crucial differences by insisting that everyone disregard all evidence that conflicts with the philosophy of universal equivalence. We must relearn how to recognize the existence differences between people, societies, governments, religions, and philosophies and then discern those which oppose our way of life and therefore pose a direct threat to our continued freedom, liberty, and life itself.

Extremism causes terrorism.

And much of that extremism comes from Muslims and Islamists.

Poverty and a feeling of hopelessness and despair are not the causes but they are symptoms and an excuse.

"Actually, it is not really all that complicated. The reason behind the majority of terrorism comes down to the most obvious reason, pure hatred." Having studied and taught about terrorism, your argument, while based on partial fact, is flawed in that it amounts to being a superficial response. The root cause(s) of terrorsm cannot be simplified down to merely being all about "pure hatred". And if you opt to continue to run with the "pure hatred" 'root' cause argument/position, you need to explain why they "hate" us so. Consider for a moment that it may have something to do with perception. Envision those would be/wannabe terrorist and say how they view the actions in Libya: We - the West and/or the US - are involved in 5 Middle Eastern countries militarily...3 of which have oil. Would not that "pure hatred" be fueled by perception in that they would view what is happening not only in Libya but in those four other Middle Eastern countries as an act of ongoing imperialism or another Western crusade, per se'? Think about. Anyhow, one cannot simplify the 'root cause' of terrorism into a nutshell named "pure hatred".....what exactly is fueling that alleged "hatred"? =.=

Man isn't born hating.
It's taught in mosques and by people like the not-so-reverend Wright ...

And the large of that hatred is completely irrational and insane.

It feeds into the victim mentality which is completely erroneous because individuals have free will and are only inhibited by their own actions and behavior patterns. People rise out of poverty every single day and they do it through their own will and ambition to be productive and provide for themselves and their families.

Developing hatred is developing a tool, or tools for power, notoriety, and wealth.

Such development is rampant in the World today.

First step in combating the perpetrators of said development is a return to a true, and benevolent GOD.

Terror is the oldest trick in the book. It is how the few and ruthless tyrannize over the many and the vulnerable.

The great Kahn used to announce his approach to an area by killing thousands and piling up their skulls in a great pyramid.

This could be seen for miles around and stood as a warning to everyone in his path.

Of course with NO newspaper, NO literacy, NO TV, etc.... what better way to convey your authority and power to masses of uneducated and unarmed people.

The story of the heap of skulls spread like wildfire and terrorized everyone and they believed it without question. Resistance would be sure death... that was the message.

The same ruthless brutality and murderous disregard for people is carried out by the terrorists we see today.

THEY have NOT evolved from this most crude and vile means to get and keep power.
Keeping ‘believers’ docile, misinformed and uninformed is paramount to their success. Islam is the perfect tool for this. Adding anti-Semitism and anti-Western pieces to this cocktail only magnifies the control terrorists may exercise over these ‘believers’ and insures that the focus of power will NOT dissipate.

OUR MSM works handily with the plans of the terrorists.

Where you have a point that the reasons behind the hatred need consideration, they are an excuse for the hatred that leads to terrorism. If, as you used for an example, Muslims are driven to acts of terror due to the West’s, especially the US, intervention militarily in numerous Muslim countries, then why is such a small percentage actually participating in terrorism? If the presumed root causes are driving terror, then every Muslim, or at a minimum, those in the affected countries, as well as all the ecology true believers, and everyone who is part of any cause where terror has been used as a tool would become terrorists. The cause or situation that is claimed to be driving terror are not the cause, they are the rationalization excusing the terror driven by their hatred. Israel, for example, is often cited as simply by existing on presumed Muslim lands are the driving force behind the terror acts perpetrated against their citizens. But this does not explain the exact same acts against the Jews in the Middle East which occurred relatively regularly well before Israel, or even Zionism, came into existence. I believe that for almost all terrorists the ability for pure hatred preceded their finding a cause which they use as the vehicle to give nobility to their acts of terror.

Tell you what, some of what you say has merit, but come into by field, whether academically, think tank wise, or government terrorism analyst position, and spout your simplified ‘root cause’ of terrorism argument and see what happens. Dude, if the ‘root’ cause(s) of terrorism could be simplified down to simply being exactly what you assert, you could publish such and be a millionaire. Let me know when you do and become such. =.=
