TASTY TRIVIA -- A Call for suggestions & submissions of favorite bits of triva (vanity)

These are just a few examples to get us started:

The Harlem Globetrotters was the brainchild of promoter-coach Abe Saperstein in the mid- to late-1920s. He thought the name gave them the right amount of appeal, mystique and prestige despite the fact, or perhaps, because of the fact, that he and his original players all came from, Chicago, not New York. And their headquarters was in Chicago too.

Teens who own dogs get more physical exercise than teens who don't.

If you have a bottle or jar top that won't unscrew, just run it under the hot water faucet for a few minutes. The heat will usually make the top expand faster than the jar or bottle, and you'll usually be able to unscrew it without using an adjustable pliers or other opener.

Teddy bears were first made by Morris Michtom, who was inspired by a 1902 cartoon depicting President Theodore "Teddy" Roosevelt refusing to shoot a tired old bear that had been trapped and tied up for him because it would have been un-sportsmanlike. It was based on an actual hunting trip incident.

Coffee helps you wake up and keep you up because of how the caffeine in it affects your blood sugar level. But if you don't have a little fruit juice first, you may not have enough blood sugar in the first place, and it isn't anywhere near as effective as if you did.

John "Johnny Appleseed" Chapman, did not, as many people believe, plant apple trees by tossing seeds hither and yon. He was a philanthropic missionary and businessman who actually started nurseries where sapling apple trees were nurtured until they could be sold to people who wanted to grow their own.

John Adams and Thomas Jefferson, 2nd and 3rd Presidents respectively, (also 1st and 2nd Vice Presidents respectively) both died on July 4, 1826 -- exactly 50 years to the day after the signing of the Declaration of Independence. Although they belonged to opposing parties, they remained fast friends who corresponded regularly until their simultaneous deaths.

23% of the Federal Budget now goes toward interest on the national debt. As the debt continues to explode, so does the percentage that goes toward interest. And Medicare, Medicaid and Social Security now make up almost half the Federal Budget. And the new health care bureaucracies, not yet in place, are estimated to cost a trillion dollars a year more.

Either you are making fun of my misspellings (which I deserve), or I somehow gave the wrong impression. Diogenese was from the Greek Turkish coast, but ended up in Corinth.

The dead friend responsible for the funeral in “The Big Chill” was Kevin Costner.

On another note, I think it was his best performance.
