The situation in Bahrain is going from bad to dire.
Earlier, thousands of protesters marched to the Saudi embassy in the Bahraini capital, angry at the intervention of Gulf Arab forces.
1000 Saudi troops had rolled into the country at the request of Bahrain's Sunni rulers. As Reuters reports, and as Zero Hedge discussed extensively before, the troop movement could signify Saudi concern that any concessions in Bahrain might inspire the Kingdom's own Shi'ite minority.
Earlier on Tuesday, the Bahrain King declared martial law as his government struggled to stop the protests. The three month state of emergency hands power over to Bahrain's security forces, which is dominated by the Sunni Muslim elite. Injured were taken to hospital as violence continued in the small Gulf island. "We came out of the tunnel and they started shooting at us and I got injured here, in the back." An opposition politician said one man was killed and several wounded in clashes with police in the Shi'ite area of Sitra.
But the biggest news, that which caused crude to just jump by a dollar, is that the Iran President has called the actions by the Bahrain government "unjustifiable and irreparable."
And if or rather when Iran gets involved on the basis of a religious escalation, watch out for global stagflation.
Bon chance!
Two Bahraini policemen were killed on Wednesday, a health official said, in an operation to clear mainly Shi'ite Muslim protesters from a central roundabout where they had been camped out for weeks.
On Tuesday, Iran and its allied force in Lebanon, Hezbollah, denounced the presence of foreign soldiers in Bahrain. Iran has no direct political links with Bahrain's main Shiite groups, but Iranian hard-liners have been known to call the tiny island nation the 14th Province of the Islamic Republic.
Barry gets his wish of $8-$10 per gallon gasoline
Barry’s unavailable at the moment (it’s 3 A.M., after all).
Please leave a message.
I’m sure Nobama will be able to carve out some time to handle the Middle East crisis now that he doesn’t have to tax his mind about his NCAA picks.
You are correct, please excuse me I must have the wrong trime zone as I thought he must be in Japan surveying the... tee time scheduled for noon.
Eagerly awaiting Barack Obama’s press conference on this...
It’s coming up on 4 p.m. in the Gulf countries... ;-)
High gas prices builds the impetus for more drilling in America.
Keep Obama on the golf course.
Well, there is still that pesky vacation in Rio he has to prepare for...
“Keep Obama on the golf course.”
Especially after November 2012.

A countries own troops will always be reluctant to fire upon their friends and families in the crowd, BUT a foreign army... has no problems mowing them down.
Sibling Rivalry. The squeakiest wheel gets the grease, in Fed Reserve notes of course. Maybe in bouillon. Yawn. Kids, don’t make me come over there!
There are plenty of problems in Rio that he has on his mind...deciding the proper width of thongs, which samba group has the best beat, will he subject the world to photos of his wife on the beach... He can’t be expected to handle the growing crisis in the Middle East too. We just need to give him a break. (He’s in over his head and showing signs he’s starting to dig).
This just what I think he’s wanted all along. By removing United States as a stable firm handler of all things geopolitical he has unleashed a multitude of religious, prejudicial and territorial hot spots all over the world especially the Middle East.
Where in past the U.S. might have immediately stepped in to settle or negotiate to calm these riffs before they exploded, Obama as usual prefers to vote present and there by take no position leaving a power void.
He and many on the left would rather the world explode than the U.S. be seen as a superpower or leader.
I think you've summed it up. In addition, there is the fact that regardless of which side wins in any of these conflicts, the result is going to be a much more Islamist Middle East.
If we had supported Mubarak (who was the most US friendly of them all) with the condition that he would uphold secularism and commit to a couple of reforms (which were actually in progress anyway), we could have stopped this. But Obama actually opposed him for this very reason.
Since then Ears has been voting present on all the rest of the conflicts because he knows that whichever side wins, it's going to be a victory for Islam, either because the more aggressively Islamist side has won, or because the current government wins and then feels that by becoming more Islamist it will placate the radical "rebel" element.
Either one works to the building of the new caliphate, and I suspect the next set of conflicts will simply be to see which Islamic leader gets to proclaim himself Top o' the Heap Caliph. Hopefully, not the one in the White House...
And guess what? Nobody cares..............let them destroy each other. They are gong to HAVE to sell gas and oil to pay for it all...........
Well we might finally find out if the “O” is Sunni or Shiite
