Battle: Los Angeles is one of those movies and geeks and nerds have dreamed about their entire lives. What would it be like if an alien force came to earth, was openly hostile, and the war began? How would we fight?
This is a war movie, in the truest sense. Its closest Hollywood analogue would have to be Black Hawk Down...which says a lot about this current film. This is not Will Smith in Independence Day, happily flying around killing bad aliens. This is war, in it grittiest Hollywood iteration.

I was going to see Battle LA this weekend, but my friend was convinced because of the negative reviews that it would suck. The movie choice was his so he picked that Matt Damon movie, ugh, should have stuck with Battle LA. :-/
They totally confused me with the two titles. I was watching the Syfy one on mute. NIa and the sword (shakes head). Who thought that would really be a good idea? They just wanted to put her in that cat suit.
I much more enjoyed Mutant Chronicles instead, and that is one twisted movie!
I boycott every matt Damon movie because he’s an overrated lefty loon. But thanks for the review. My neighbor told me it was a more screwed up version of Minority Report.
She turned out to be about the only thing worth watching in that
movie. She didn't need the eye patch to make the Daryl
Hannah/Kill Bill connection.
The production company, Asylum, is known for copying titles as
close as they legally can, and quickly producing a similarly
themed knockoff.
I think they must have hired the Clintonistas away from the SyFy
channel to produce such unimaginative tripe.
I hope neither owes the other any favors if that was the best that
they could do.

I hate movies set in LA. There is a lot more to Earth than LA.
That always bugs me too. Any group with the technology to be able to get here from another star would likely have military technology so far beyond ours it would be like the US Marines fighting a Roman legion.
Every branch of the military was represented in the film. Coast Guard ships suffered the first casualties. A Navy Corpsman attended to the wounded. Army infantrymen who were separated from their unit fought with the Marines. It was an Air Force Tech Sergeant that provide the intel that brought down the aliens hordes.
My 14 year old son and I watched it yesterday.
It was definitely worth the money, and there was some crying in the audience (those who see the movie will now the moment I’m talking about when you see it), but there was genuine pride in seeing our military portrayed as they should be; imperfect heroes.
Absolutely go see this one. Occasionally,Hollywood does something right despite their best efforts, you may as well reward them for it:)
I saw it Friday - enjoyed it very much, once my eyes and stomach got used to the accursed “shaky cam”.
If you consider yourself part of America’s enlightened elite, you won’t like this film. As for the rest of us, I suspect it will do pretty well at the box office.
That’s why the original War of the Worlds is still the best. In that film the aliens did not dismount and fight as infantry, as the aliens did in this film. They did not have such bad programming that a human hacker could disable their machines after a few days of coding as they did in Independence Day. The film did not show scientists creating miracle weapons in the nick of time like in Earth Versus the Flying Saucers and scores of other movies.
In WOTW all our weapons, including atomic bombs, were useless. It was nature itself that destroyed the aliens- the germs, bacteria and viruses. What Wells called “the littlest things, which God, in His wisdom, had put upon this Earth.”
I learned very valuable lesson from twister. If you have a belt and a pipe you can survive the worst tornados.
I have to admit I wouldn’t waste a .22 LR defending Los Angeles. The “aliens” have already taken over there. And good riddance.
Yes they do. In fact, they just had a new upgrade series come into service a few years ago.
LA movies are the best...That includes all the Classics!
