Economic Collapse Preparedness: What to do? (End of USA preparedness)
Surviving Argentina ^ | 1-26-2011 | Ferfel

Posted on 01/28/2011 9:45:11 PM PST by Frantzie

It was during that conversation with Ray a few days ago that he nailed me with that question. We had been talking for about an hour about how things went down here in Argentina, the similarities, inflation, how “shopping carts” keep getting more and more expensive, how crime affects your lifestyle. But what to do? The person now gets it, the person not only understands the wisdom in preparing for disasters large and small but comprehends that due to the current economic situation, life in general is going to change from now on, unemployment, inflation, loss of life quality in general, crime. But now what?

And on Fox Business news, we mostly hear about how "peachy" and wonderful that the market is. "All that new growth!" Well something IS growing, and it sure ain't the economy!

Check out the individual taxpayer debt; $127,213 PER TAXPAYER! But they always show the $45,000 debt of every human in America. That way it doesn't look quite so bad.

You should make your tagline the URL for your excellent manual.

I have no idea why a moderator would spasm and remove that URL. But then again, moderator actions don't make much sense to me ever.

We went to a Oath Keepers meeting last night, and the founder Stuart Rhodes spoke. He said it’s not IF a collapse is coming, but WHEN. Ferfal is right when he says the first step is to mentally accept that it can, and will, happen. I have family members who scoff and say, “People have been saying this kind of thing for years.” Which is true, AND they were right! It’s just taken a while for all of the horrifically bad government fiscal policies to catch up with us, and soon we’ll be cornered with nowhere else to go.

I saw Ferfal’s blog before - it is excellent. Full of useful tips. For example - people buy gold, but how is gold bar going to help you when SHTF? Better to have small pieces, like links on a necklace, that are more easily used as cash”

Buy junk silver as it will be the day to day exchange if the SHTF. Also buy fractional gold; 1/10th oz. Folks who plan ahead now will get through the bad times. Just being ready for anything is a good feeling. Maybe it will never happen so then you can eat up your survival food over time.

Well to me, as food prices increase the additional capacity to grow you own vittles will pay off with a nice ROI.

I doubt people really realize what the Grocery Store bill is going to look like in say August of 2011 but my one caution is to grow the things that will be the most expensive at the Store as it makes no sense to grow Onions and pay through the the nose for Eggplant or Green Peppers.

Yep, time to take that Biblical admonishment “if you are on the rooftop do not go back into your house to retrieve your coat” seriously for the amazing Coptic Christian Community of Egypt as the Islamic “Beast” is on the ascent in that country.

Do you think people will rise up and overthrow the government when we collapse?

I’m just wondering what your thoughts are on this?

Perry, IMO, is RAT-lite but knows who butters his bread. Wish we had better but I’m still holding out hope that if/when it hits the fan, he’ll come around just like he does during election time (only this time it would have to be for real).

What your family members who scoff don't understand is that circumstances this time are unique - the nation's credit card has been maxed out.

I've been running a preparedness group in Central Florida for the past 18 months, so I study and prepare on a daily basis. Let me recommend a low cost and very critical purchase to everyone, calcium hypochlorite. A small bag of this can purify your family's water for YEARS.

Many municipalities use calcium hypochlorite to purify city water supplies. Commercially it is most often sold as 'pool shock', however you must select a product carefully to make sure it truly is calcium hypochlorite, and that it doesn't have harmful additives (e.g. algaecides, etc).

One of our group members located a good, low-cost source. The price was so good that I ordered ten bags just yesterday. Here's the source:

http://www.poolgeek.com/GLB-Super-Charge-P2273.aspx

Other things to know:

Calcium hypochlorite is one of the essentials for the serious prepper. If you obtain it be sure to look up instructions for using it to purify water on the Internet and have them printed somewhere for future reference.

In a barter economy I will stick to pint and half-pint bottles of whiskey and .22 ammo.
