I think holding the door for the girl that you are having casual sex with is very romantic. It should shock no one to hear such irreverent "wisdom" escape the lips of Ashton Kutcher. The comment is from a recent promotional interview for his forthcoming romantic comedy No Strings Attached. In it, he stars opposite Natalie Portman as life-long platonic friends who drop the platonic without adding love or commitment.
The calling card of No Strings is its cavalier attitude toward casual sex, and how members of the opposite sex have precious few boundaries talking about or engaging in the practice of making love. This isnt The Philadelphia Story, where subtle references to sex were lightly bandied about by the likes of Cary Grant and Katharine Hepburn. Instead, screenwriter Elizabeth Meriweather talks frankly about physicality in the 21st century. The times have changed, you see. As Portman tells Entertainment Weekly, it's high time Hollywood's depictions of romance change as well.
"Ive always wanted to do [a romantic comedy]," says the newly pregnant star... But the girls are always in fashion, and its always about their clothes. They always want to get married at the end. Theres some kind of makeover scene. That stuff offends me(...)"Right about here is where you might expect a moralizing diatribe about the ongoing collapse of Western civilization. This is a conservative blog after all. However, let us consider a slightly more nuanced response....says Portmans producing partner, Annette Savitch. We want to do movies that are female driven, from a fresher perspective. So if its a comedy, its not just about women out to find husbands. I think thats really lacking today.

It has a nice, wholesome lesbian scene. GAG.
What did you think of The King’s Speech? Thks.
I was just thinking emotionally. Someone — sometimes the guy, sometimes the girl — will always get attached.
Yes I agree, someone will get hurt either physically(from diseases or pregnancy) and ALWAYS emotionally. The only way a woman can bed hop is if they’ve hardened their hearts and have become cold and hard. Men might be able to compartmentalize but, most women can’t. This is a man’s(not all by the way) dream come true. Loose women, no responsibilities. If the woman get’s pregnant just send her to the nearest abortion clinic. If she won’t have an abortion, that’s her problem not his. A man who bed hops becomes just as callous as the woman, just in a different way.
No strings attached? If it’s to good to be true, it probably isn’t.
” It maybe art imitating life, but I personally do not find it romantic. I saw love and other drugs not long ago. It had a similar attitude about sex. Probably the worst movie I have seen in several years. I would expect this to be on par so I will pass. “
Truly believe that Hollywood pushes the agenda each and every year to make things “ normal” in their view.
A try it before you buy it approach is what they are after, with no buy it ever intended.
Feel good now, and later in life wake up and wonder “ what have I done to myself”
Ms Portman is wrong about this being a new theme for Hollywood. This has been a theme for some time.
Same Time Next Year (1978)
I could come up with others. Of course, young actors always think they are breaking new ground and being so avante garde.
