Natalie Portman and Ashton Kutcher Sell Sex With “No Strings Attached”
David Horowitz's NewsReal Blog ^ | January 20, 2011 | Walter Hudson

I think holding the door for the girl that you are having casual sex with is very romantic.
It should shock no one to hear such irreverent "wisdom" escape the lips of Ashton Kutcher. The comment is from a recent promotional interview for his forthcoming romantic comedy No Strings Attached. In it, he stars opposite Natalie Portman as life-long platonic friends who drop the platonic without adding love or commitment.
The calling card of “No Strings” is its cavalier attitude toward casual sex, and how members of the opposite sex have precious few boundaries talking about or engaging in the practice of making love. This isn’t “The Philadelphia Story,” where subtle references to sex were lightly bandied about by the likes of Cary Grant and Katharine Hepburn. Instead, screenwriter Elizabeth Meriweather talks frankly about physicality in the 21st century.
The times have changed, you see. As Portman tells Entertainment Weekly, it's high time Hollywood's depictions of romance change as well.

"I’ve always wanted to do [a romantic comedy]," says the newly pregnant star... But the girls are always in fashion, and it’s always about their clothes. They always want to get married at the end. There’s some kind of makeover scene. That stuff offends me(...)"

...says Portman’s producing partner, Annette Savitch. “We want to do movies that are female driven, from a fresher perspective. So if it’s a comedy, it’s not just about women out to find husbands. I think that’s really lacking today.”

Right about here is where you might expect a moralizing diatribe about the ongoing collapse of Western civilization. This is a conservative blog after all. However, let us consider a slightly more nuanced response.

One New York movie reviewer said that Portman and Kutcher actually make sex boring. Kutcher isn’t much of an actor. What the hell was Natalie Portman doing in this tripe?

I saw the preview of this film today while I saw The Kings Speech. This No Strings Attached is just perversion. I am not prudish or anything....but I was disgusted with the preview and the film. Not surprised Ashton Kutcher would be in a film like this....but Natalie Portman can do a lot better

“If they think there are no strings attached with casual sex they are sadly mistaken.”

Like I heard a hooker once say, “It ain’t never free, baby!”

I briefly heard a radio host while driving to town this morning. I don’t recall his name and am paraphrasing his statement but here it is.

We, the solid conservatives in this country are only a few percentage points now. We are the same as Israels remnant who remained faithful to God.

Basically the country is lost tho it could be regained as God can do miracles. That last sentence was mine.

I make my 9-year-old cover her eyes when the previews come on {grrrr}.

Amen! It's infuriating.

Last week, my wife and I were watching television with our precious 10-year-old grandson and those vulgar trailers appeared a couple of times during commercial breaks.

But get this: we were watching a FAMILY show on a FAMILY television network.

I'm still steamed!

A "family" network? I'm not sure any of those really exist. When you look at who owns most of them, who controls most of them and who programs them, any "family" programming almost seems like an accident.

My favorite is when ABC Family once programmed the movie "Casual Sex?" at 10am...that's when I knew that most "family" networks are mere charades.

Well, isn’t the story just naturally going to be that what they intend as “no strings” is actually impossible. There is a personal, spiritual, connection that happens between two people when they have sex. It cannot be avoided. There are *always* emotional complications... strings... and massive potential damage.

Seems to me, that would be the whole point of the movie. Not to celebrate “no strings” but to show the flaws in it.

Tell me about it. I found that out the hard way.

You can't even watch football either with your young grandchildren. Ever see the godaddy.com commercials they play during games? Practically porn.

What has happened to America?

Hollywood: Working to make heterosexuals views about sex, homosexual.

Sex without love, or consequences, or kids. Just doing it whenever, with whoever, wherever. No strings. For your own gratification. That’s why it’s “no strings”, don’t have to care about the other person, they’re just a sexual appliance as far as you’re concerned. No love, no committment, no icky punishments that might possibly cramp your style. Monogamy? Marriage?

THAT VIEWPOINT is the HOMOSEXUAL viewpoint of sex. And they are pushing heterosexuals to have a homosexual attitude towards how they view sex and love.

What conclusion should I draw from that? A photo of a moderately ugly person wearing a drugged-out expression?

That is an odd expression on her face but she is really a pretty girl, at least on the outside.
