The Coupon Whisperer: FREE Tide!!!
The Coupon Whisperer ^ | January 10, 2011 | PJ-Comix

I used to get some really incredible deals via couponing on a variety of laundry detergents but my wife wasn't satisfied. She wanted only one brand: Tide. It seems that people from Venezuela have developed VERY strong loyalties to various product brands. For example, she also disdained any toothpaste except for Colgate (or "Col-gah-teh" as she pronounces it) although I have finally gotten her to become a fan of Crest as well. This wasn't a problem because I have been able to score a lot of FREE tubes of both Colgate and Crest via creative couponing. However, Tide had remained a problem.

The Tide coupons seem to always be for just a dollar. The 100 oz Tide is usually $15.99 in the store although sometimes it is discounted down to as low as $9.99 which makes the cost after applying the coupon $8.99. The 50 oz size is normally about $8.99 and when they are discounted down to $5.99 it is still going to cost you 5 bucks after the coupon. So how to get FREE detergent while keeping my wife from griping all the time?

Simple. I discovered travel size products which are numerous and include Tide. Just do what I did last Saturday and go to either Target or Walmart. I went to the travel size bin of Target and, using 10 Tide one dollar coupons, picked up 10 travel size packets of Tide. Each Tide packet has enough detergent for one laundry load. They were selling for 97 cents each so my final cost for them was FREE!!!

And now my wife isn't complaining about a lack of Tide. Now she is griping about how she has to go through the "trouble" of opening a Tide packet every time she wants to wash a load of laundry. You know what? TOUGH!!!

Oh and all the info about the travel size Tide packs and the coupon you need to use is pretty much self-explanatory in the photo above. You will probably find that same coupon again in your local Sunday newspaper on January 16 in the P&G insert.

Happy Tiding!

Sort of relaxing today following a strenuous week of couponing. Some of the MANY things I scored FREE at Walgreens last week:

About a couple of dozen Omega Factor 3 krill and tuna oil, tons of Nyquil/Dayquil, 3 month supply of generic Listerine, 3 month supply of Dental Tape (much better than floss), a bunch of toothbrushes, 3 month supply of paper towels & TP, 3 month supply of tuna fish and pink salmon cans (40 in total), 2 bottles of Crisco vegetable oil, and a LOT of other stuff including 6 DiGiorno Supreme pizzas.

This coming week will be what I call "background buzz" couponing. This is just doing my traditional couponing on things I've done before but guess what...I'll still be getting at least $500 worth of stuff for under 20 bucks.

Later this morning will be using a coupon to get my van oil changed for just $14.95 which leads me to the subject of cars. You are probably paying toooo much for Anti-Freeze. Let me guess. You are shelling out around 12 bucks for a gallon of the stuff. Well, yesterday, I got a gallon of it for just $4. How? Simple. I just stopped by the flea market. They always sell it cheap there. And no, it was NOT used. I got a SEALED container. No coupons necessary.

IF you care to share, for the benefit of newbies, what's your favorite 'Register Rewards' product in this week's circular from Walgreens?

Am I correct that the only totally FREE one would be the bottle of kids' vitamins?

Thanks.

I forgot to mention that last week I also scored 2 FREE cases of bottled drinking water including a case of Dasani.

Thanks for the tip about the dollar coupon in this week's P&G --- I've never seen one of those which didn't specifically state that it could not be used on trial sizes.

Do you collect the coupons yourself or buy them from the folks who sell them on EBAY ?

I very rarely buy Tide because of the reasons stated in your article. However, I have purchased All and Arm&Hammer for less than half price with coupon.

Do you do the surveys on CVS ? I did one on Friday and received a $5.00 Extra Bucks coupon. I am probably going to use it to buy Diet Pepsie 12 packs this week.

just my 2 cents:

try www.iheartwags.com

and iheartcvs.com

they list the sale items in the weekly flyer 2-3 weeks in advance so that you get the appropriate coupon to match up with the upcoming sales resulting in free items.
They also have links to printable coupons and will sell you the coupon if you do not have them.

Best deal seems to be for Maalox. It is selling for $6.79 per bottle. A $5 Maalox coupon came out in yesterday's SmartSource insert in your local Sunday newspaper. In addition when you buy $30 worth of Maalox you get $10 in Register Rewards back. Soooooo....when you buy 5 bottles of Maalox for a total of $33.95 you will receive the $10 RRs. After applying the 5 coupons your total OOP (Out Of Pocket) cost plummets down to $8.95. Since the RRs comes to $10 this deal amounts to FREE plus $1.05 extra to you.

I won't be doing this deal since I have no need for Maalox although I have had more than my share of Maalox Moments.

Ebay and other sites sell coupons such as TheCouponClippers.Com. Also I have discovered a treasure trove of discarded newspapers with inserts but don't explain me to reveal that source or folks will be all over it like flies the next time I harvest those coupons.

At Walgreens, Lysol Healthy Touch System: 11.99-7.00 RR= 4.99. Manufacturer’s coupon save $3 bucks. Price= 1.99.

Sounds like a pretty good start. $7 RR buys the Go! Kids for $5 with $2 left to buy something else. $5RR from Kids Vitamins. Ping pong.

We used to use couponclippers but lately have found better deals at mycouponhunter.com or collectablecoupons.com

IIRC mycouponhunter does not have a minimum order requirement.

Rite Aid has Blink Eye drops 7.99 with 7.99 rebate. Have to wait for the rebate but it’s free.

BTW, I once caught a married couple harvesting coupons at my secret site. So I did an impression of a private detective and authoritatively but with an understanding tone informed them that they were on private property but that I would let them off with just a warning this one time. The wife seemed relieved that they got let off with just a warning. I split for an hour and returned to check if they returned. They didn't so I went ahead and harvested the site. I never saw them again.

BTW, did you know you can get FREE fake badges with coupons? They look real and nobody ever looks at them closely if you flash them. Hee! Hee!

We need a ping list so people could post their daily finds (not that I’m lazy or anything).
