These two people raised a troubled, mentally unstable son who committed a horrific act today…but I don’t see any evidence these two are bad people who had any knowledge of what their son was planning...

I’m not a shrink either, but I counsel non-custodial step moms that have 2nd husbands who feel they have to placate their children to counteract the mother’s trashing of him and stepmom to the children while in her custody. I have done this on a different website for about four years now.
Also their 2nd husbands have to “compete with their own wallet” during visitation as mother plays the role of her child’s best friend instead of parent and uses HIS child support payment to make it appear that “all good things come from mom.”
So basically the dad is holding the bag financially (state sponsored of course; if he doesn’t pay child support he can be thrown into debtor’s prison) yet is cut out of his children’s lives by mom and there goes what little “father influence” he had (once again, state sponsored through NOT enforcing court ordered visitation)
If mom says dad is a rotten bum in front of the children 24/7 and decides to “withhold” visitation, she knows there are no repercussions to this behavior.
Thus uber spoiled, narcissistic, entitled, failing academically and socially, coddled and “chick-i-fied” children with no respect for any adult or authority and quite often pumped full of ADHD meds and “happy pills.” (See Obama) These children have “adult spousal status” and have been inappropriately been made adult confidants most often by the custodial “single” mom.

Before teddy kennedy and his wonderful idea that it was too expensive and “mean” to committ insane people to insitutes someone like the arizona shooter might have been away from the public where he couldn’t hurt anyone.

He got mad at someone he put a lot of heart into and decided to kill her and the others were just collateral damage.
It doesn't take a schizo to do something like this. I takes someone who can't/won't control himself.
He apparently apologized to his friends for doing this in advance and went out and bought a Glock. This indicates a plan which I understand will negate any insanity defense.

These people allowed their troubled son to live with them without supervision. If he had a job, there has been no mention of it. How could he buy a Glock? those are not cheap; how about the extended magazines for it?
People who lack the judgement that allows them to ignore a dangerous offspring are complicit in horrible crimes they may commit. Pretending he is normal was just plain stupid, and 18 innocents paid the price.
Pretty sad for the kids. I have a friend who’s divorced and the father hasn’t paid a dime in over a year, nor has he come to pick up his kids. He’s remarried and now has 2 children by his second wife. He’s basically abandoned his other 2 kids. He called my gf the other day and told her he was taking their son as a deduction on his taxes. Pretty sad.
Because they are Democrats? Personally I think the whole thing stinks to high heaven including that Sheriff. I doubt we are going to find out the whole story.
If the parents had been conservatives we would have known all details by now. It would be non-stop coverage and it would ALL come out.

She can put a stop to that if he was ordered to pay child support and he hasn't. She can also have the child support deducted from his check. she just has to go to child support enforcement in her state. They can tell her the steps she needs to take.

He’s in another state. She has little money to fight this. And the dead beat dad is on unemployment, which by now maybe has ended. As far as I know he isn’t working. His new wife has a good job.

Prayer does something for every situation. It is our most potent weapon.
I can assure you that is no longer the “norm” especially not in the “blue” states. The “deadbeat dad” is becoming as extinct as the dinosaur. This was my situation way back in the eighties, when both of my husbands were “dead beat dads” however I did not discourage the relationship between father and child like so many other biomoms do.
What is on the rise, however is the deadbeat MOM. A woman who makes a good living, decides that the children are burdensome and goes off to live a life of riley. The father does not go after her for CS b/c it would spark a prolonged custody hearing and in some cases still pays HER for the luxury of being a custodial dad. The courts have a mega double standard on this and don’t go after the deadbeat moms like they do with the fervor that they do non custodial dads.
She doesn’t need any money to fight it if she goes to the state child support office. I also don’t know if it matters if he has a job or lives in the same state.. She could call them and get information for when (if ) he ever gets a job in the future.
If he thinks he has a right to take the child as a deduction without ever providing child support for that child is ridiculous. Why isn’t she using the deduction since she is providing for the child?
What state does she live in and I’ll see if I can find a number (if you want me to).
Michigan and he’s in wisconsin. She’s already going to take her son as a deduction. That’s my understanding, she’s just worried about getting her refund in a timely fashion. Financially she’s really struggling. She has a full time job, she’s always worked. She makes decent money, but, with 2 kids and a house payment (which is relatively small) and everything that goes with that, she struggles.
