the wake of the attempted assassination of Rep. Gabrielle Giffords (D-Ariz.) and the shooting of more than 20 others in Tucson today, fellow Arizona Democrat Rep. Raul Grijalva denounced a political environment poisoned by "anger, hatred, and division." In a phone interview with Mother Jones, Grijalva called the assault "horrible and unbelievable and shocking….It's hard to explain and really difficult to comprehend." Grijalva—who was also the recent target of violent threats—went on to blame the polarized political climate for creating an atmosphere that fueled violence:
We never entered [politics] believing that we were taking our lives in our hands...we're feeding anger, hatred, and division for quite a while. Maybe it is time for elected officials and leaders in this country that have been feeding that disease to realize that there are consequences to it. I hope people stop and think that we can be opponents, but we don't have to be deadly enemies…to demonize another person because of a disagreement and to make them expendible is not a democracy, it's not the America I know.
Asked whether the tea party right deserved to be singled out for particular blame, Grijalva assented:
[When] you stoke these flames, and you go to public meetings and you scream at the elected officials, you threaten them—you make us expendable you make us part of the cannon fodder. For a while, you've been feeding this hatred, this division…you feed it, you encourage it….Something's going to happen. People are feeding this monster….Some of the extreme right wing has made demonization of elected officials their priority.
A number of prominent left-wing blogs, including Daily Kos and FireDogLake, also blamed Sarah Palin for fanning the flames by placing Giffords—along with other vulnerable Democratic members of Congress—literally in the crosshairs on a map during the midterm elections. Grijalva said that the Palin "apparatus" shares responsibility for creating a climate of extremism. "Both Gabby and I were targeted in the apparatus in that cycle [saying] these people are 'enemies.'" He concluded: "The Palin express better look at their tone and their tenor."
Makes me sick.
We do nothing to the left to thwart them, NOTHING. We have ZERO PR power.
Our leaders (and our voters) are afraid to speak up for fear of bad press, so we only elect wimpy leaders.
We don't even have anyone on TV tonight to answer these charges? Are they afraid??
And, to top it off, the left uses these events to further shut us up, and some of us relent!!!

You are right. Giffords is a moderate like Joe Lieberman is a moderate. She has a perfect anti-life rating from NARAL and PP, she gets a D+ from Numbers USA on immigration issues, she voted lock step with Pelousy, and gets a D or F from 2nd amendment gun rights organizations. She is a SOLID LIBERAL. She successfully uses some conservative rhetoric to blow smoke up the arses of her constituents to barely get elected.
Having said that, I wish her well in her recovery. Fox News has been irritating me all day with this phony “moderate” portrayal of Giffords.
Arizona congressman-elect Raul Grijalva is a former member of MEChA, according to a 1997 article in the Arizona Daily Wildcat. Did voters know that Grijalva is or was involved with an anti-American seditionist organization? Will he denounce MEChA now that he’s headed to Washington? Will he represent MEChA viewpoints (rabidly anti-American) or the interests of the American people when he gets there? — Grijalva also isn’t happy about “civilian patrols” whose members are seeking to deter illegal immigration, and is in agreement with meddlesome Mexicans that an investigation is needed into activities of Americans (not illegal aliens and their cheerleaders).

And that is why you call them out on it. If it means outing their family so be it. This is what they do to Conservatives then hide behind the First Amendment.

What I would encourage everyone here to do is: be prepared to comment on your local newspaper websites tomorrow. Ours has a little blog where one of the editors posts. I know it’s going to be a variation of the vitrol theme.
Be ready to write letters to the editor, because you know the “the rhetoric is overheated and caused this” crap is coming. Point out the facts... you know, the ones which won’t make the news. Like this kid was a wackjob leftist with no ties to the right. The fact that the Tea Party had nothing to do with this, or the countless times the left has used hate speech against conservatives. Don’t let the statists lie their way to victory.
“If you shine the light on the cockroaches, they don’t like it,” Grijalva said at a press conference yesterday hosted by Coalicion de Derechos Humanos, a group that advocates for illegal immigrants.
“The more we ignore it, the more it’s going to fester,” said Grijalva
Grijalva spoke out against the Sierra Vista-based American Border Patrol, Texas-based Ranch Rescue and the Civil Homeland Defense, organized by Tombstone newspaper publisher Chris Simcox.
Grijalva said he believes all three organizations are racist.
"If you're a young person looking at the future of this planet and looking at what is being done right now, and not done, I believe we have reached the stage where it is time for civil disobedience to prevent the construction of new coal plants that do not have carbon capture and sequestration," (Former Vice Pres. Al) Gore told the Clinton Global Initiative gathering to loud applause.
I hope the GOP is planning to substantially gerrymander this district for 2012.
The attack against her and the others who were killed or injured was horrendous and unwarranted. However, the Left is now trying to use it politically to smear Reps and the Tea Party movement. It is a disgrace.
