I know planes pretty well but that one has me stumped. It is obviously a WWII plane. Sort of looks like a cross between a Spitfire and a U.S. Navy Avenger.

That is an inline engine version of the P-47 Thunderbolt designated the XP-47H. It was a variant using a 16 cylinder Allison engine.
