Huckabee Says Document Leaks Treason, Calls for Execution of Government Leaker

Exterior of Ronald Reagan Library

Governor Mike Huckabee talked to reporters this weekend at the Ronald Reagan and Richard Nixon Presidential Libraries in California while on a book tour for his new children's book Can't Wait Till Christmas. Among those reporters was KADY-TV* reporter Maria Sanchez. Huckabee said:

"Whoever in our government leaked that information is guilty of treason and I think anything less than execution is too kind a penalty. They have put American lives at risk. They have put relations that will take decades to rebuild at risk. They knew well they were handling sensitive documents. They were entrusted. Anyone who had access to that level of information was not only a person who understood what their rules were, but they also signed under oath a committment they would not violate it. They did. And I believe they have committed treason against this country and any lives they endangered they're personally responsible for and the blood is on their hands."

"And in addition to their reckless irresponsibility and act of criminal intent I think the New York Times has shown an utter reckless disregard for any responsible journalism by printing something they know they obtained in a way that is not appropriate."

This matches and surpasses the tough talk of US Representative Pete King of NY who yesterday suggested that the website that leaked the documents to the public be considered a terrorist organization and be shut down. Whether or not we will be able to find the government leakers is yet to be determined. Some are already trying to make political hay by putting the blame on the Obama Government alone. I think it is too premature for that. Other pundits have suggested that this whole problem originated....

At least he has the right targets.

Personally I don’t believe that Manning alone leaked this info. I suspect much higher level leakers are out there.

Old Huck is trying to get to the right on defense and foreign policy issues. Perhaps to combat the damage he did to himself in 2008 with his Jimmy Carter foreign policy positions. That’s not to say that the leaker should not be subject to a treason trial, but the argument just isn’t that credible coming from an opportunist like Huckabee.

Dear Mr. Huckabee,

I prefer NOT (to being your intent?),
and execute those who will be blamed
somewhat falsely, in our Military.

Sincerely,

I don’t know if it’s technically treason but I’m no lawyer or constitutional authority.

This is the former Governor who pardoned more criminals than any other Arkansas Governor, including one who later killed four cops in Seattle.

You a full time Huckabee pusher?

Huckabee thinks it “Un-Christian” to deny illegal aliens government benefits.

He apparently also thinks it “Un-Christian” to let criminals serve out their full sentences when they have been contrite to the Lord and asked for forgiveness.

I refer the esteemed former Governor to the movie “O Brother Where Art Thou”. Mississippi may be a bit more hard-nosed, but not Arkansas under Huckabee.

Pete: Well I'll be a sonofabitch. Delmar's been saved.
Delmar O'Donnell: Well that's it, boys. I've been redeemed. The preacher's done warshed away all my sins and transgressions. It's the straight and narrow from here on out, and heaven everlasting’s my reward.
Ulysses Everett McGill: Delmar, what are you talking about? We've got bigger fish to fry.
Delmar O'Donnell: The preacher says all my sins is warshed away, including that Piggly Wiggly I knocked over in Yazoo.
Ulysses Everett McGill: I thought you said you was innocent of those charges?
Delmar O'Donnell: Well I was lyin’. And the preacher says that that sin's been warshed away too. Neither God nor man's got nothin’ on me now. C’mon in boys, the water is fine.

Pete: The Preacher said it absolved us.
Ulysses Everett McGill: For him, not for the law. I'm surprised at you, Pete, I gave you credit for more brains than Delmar.
Delmar O'Donnell: But they was witnesses that seen us redeemed.
Ulysses Everett McGill: That's not the issue Delmar. Even if that did put you square with the Lord, the State of Mississippi's a little more hard-nosed.

Offer Manning his life for higher ups. He can play David Greenglass to this episode’s Julius and Ethel Rosenberg. It would be sweet if the leakers were named Plame and Wilson.

“...guilty of treason and I think anything less than execution is too kind a penalty.”

.
When was the last time that anyone convicted of treason was executed in the US? Hell, we have had presidents who got away with giving state secrets like missile technology to the enemy.

Tough talk for a guy who issued over 1000 pardons and commutations as Governor. I don't think Huckabee met a criminal he didn't feel sorry for and think deserved some reduced sentence or outright release. 4 police officers are dead because of one of the sentences Huckabee commuted - even worse, his reason for doing so was that the animal he let out had received too harsh of a sentence because he was a young black man.

I am more ambivalent about the leaks than most here. I see a lot of skulduggery being done in the name of diplomacy, and Hillary Clinton up to her old tricks of gathering dirt on people (remember the FBI files???)

Bombast! Outrage! Lives endangered! US government spying on everyone inside and outside their country, quisling Middle East leaders asking us to do their dirty work with our soldiers so they can save face in front of the mullahs, billions and billions of dollars to corrupt Arab and ME leaders who will continue to hate us long before the last penny is spent, etc. It's a dirty, dirty world of appeasing world leaders and lying to your own people.

Huckabee talks tough now.

He sure wasn’t that tough on criminals when he was governor.

Ask some in Washington state about that.

Agreed! And I want the current Administration held accountable. This did not happen when G.W. Bush was in the White House. I want Eric Holder and Obama to be honest with the American people and LIE nor hide behind the facade of State security But I want to know WHY they allowed this massive leak to happen. They are responsible -or they ought resign.

Huckabee pardoned ZERO criminals.

But don’t let facts get in your way.

“the animal he let out had received too harsh of a sentence because he was a young black man.”

Do you know what crimes he had committed in order to receive an over 100 year sentence?

Apparently he didn’t feel sorry for the criminals that he signed the death warrants for. Your hate-filled heart doesn’t allow any perspective.

Yep, he’s running.
