I’ll stay put here in Michigan.
We have good hunting, lots of fish, and plenty of fertile land for growing veggies.
North central Missouri.
A state with a large percentage of rural residents, low land prices, fairly moderate weather and low taxes.
Off the top of my head:
Florida
Tennessee
Texas
South Carolina
Oklahoma
maybe Missouri or Arkansas
Oklahoma.... no doubt. State hasn’t been really impacted by housing bubble and bust. Economy has been more stable. One of the lowest cost of living states. Plenty of open space. And a VERY RED state.
Nirvana or Grace...
If there is a real economic meltdown of biblical proportions; then, no state will be safe from the vast mobs of people struggling to survive.

I’ve lived in several southern states and hands-down, TEXAS is the place to be.
Alaska seems tempting for me...
There is none. It has to do w the word “united”.
Stay where you are:
1) stockpile food and ammo for about three months
2)stay low and hidden..and this can be done in the urban areas...
3)wait it out, while the nutjobs off each other within the first couple of months
With a little luck, the entitlement crowd will eat itself alive and sensible leadership will emerge..
Have faith..and shoot straight.
Someplace that has water and food and not very many people.
How about Nigeria? I’m always getting notes saying that a rich dude’s left some $21 million and they need to share it so I could make out on that for a while....

Stay out of Alaska. It’s too cold and grizzlies will eat your babies and pets.

I say North Dakota. Lowest unemployment rate in the country, low crime, friendly people, beautiful country. Really, climate not as bad as people say; they always mention ND when they think cold weather, but think of all the other states bordering Canada. Beautiful summers and falls. I don’t know where one person is coming from when he’s afraid of a conservative area because they wouldn’t be as willing to help, but he sure has it wrong. Conservatives are all about helping each other so the government doesn’t tell us what to do. We have good schools, 3 colleges in the Fargo area.
Find a state where you can grow most of the food you will eat on a few acres, where you can hunt, fish, find firewood, where you can barter, trade your skills for goods and labor, and where governments, federal and local will leave you alone. I’m close to having that in my neck of northern New Mexico. Most of my neighbors have learned to speak English. They are a good group of people who don’t want any trouble, and don’t tolerate it, and the various government agencies and law enforcement tend to stay away. Best of all, I don’t owe a penny on any of it.
