What's for breakfast?

Posted on 11/13/2010 2:47:18 AM PST by JoeProBono

"I am in weekday breakfast rut! I need something I can either easily carry or eat/prep quickly. I swear I've had every combination of Publix/Other brand bagels + various cream cheese spreads....gone through tons of cereals, oatmeals, frozen foods. Did the hot pocket thing and/or jimmy dean breakfast d'lite frozen sandwich things for a while.

I'm not against precooking things either! I've hardboiled eggs the night before and peeled them, or cooked noodles or mashed potatoes and just warmed a small portion in the morning. But I'm tired of all of the above. What do you eat for breakfast?"

My first experience with grits-—We were driving down south and stopped in a restaurant in KY or TN for breakfast. Grits came with the meal. I poured cream and sprinkled sugar over it thinking that’s how it was eaten. It looked like white Malto Meal. The waitress came by and said sweetly, “You’re from up north ain’t ya”

Does anyone know the best way to store lard. Store bought real lard (not Crisco). It comes in a box. Should I freeze it, refrigerate it or just keep it on the pantry shelf? Thanks in advance for any advice.

Aw man, now you’ve done it. I won’t be happy again until I get my grits made up! ... BTW, apple pie is the bestest breakfast ever. And you can add a cheese slice or vanilla ice cream to fancy it up. Big cup of Eight O’clock 100% Arabica and you’re good to go. ... Now for cheese grits

When I was married, my wife would get grossed out when I poured Honey Bunches in a bowl and added no fat small curd cottage cheese, topped with banana slices. I did get her hooked on my healthshakes though: non-fat milk, a banana, big dollop of peanut butter, 1/4 cup of one minute oats, uncooked, two tablespoons of Wheat germ, seven ice cubes, blend until smooth and enjoy. A variation is to use a whole apple, sliced into eight pieces, instead of the banana. You can freeze over ripe bananas if mushed up and use them and reduce the ice cube count.

Old family tradition is cinnamon + powdered sugar + softened butter hand blended together as a icing and spread on hot white toast. Raisin Toast is butter only...

Last time I cooked a good breakfast, it included corned beef hash, fried eggs, fried corn meal mush, butter and syrup, coffee, juice and milk.
